Decisioning a 42 year old Glen Johnson doesn't automatically put him at the top of the division in my book. He needs to perform well against the likes of Dirrell, Kessler, Froch, or Ward before getting full credit from me.

If he can shine against them then all respect to him. But he has to earn it first.

At least it's safe to say that the win against Johnson qualifies Bute for a shot at Ward/Froch/Kessler. Noone can say that he hasn't earned it now.

No, but it goes a long way in validating his numbers and growth since Andrade I and strengthens his claim to the winner of the 6 needing to face him. Bute looked very good last night. Johnson is aged for sure, but he still beats anyone below top tier at 68 or 75 with that showing last night.

I'd still like to see him and Kessler fight it out, with the winner getting the shot at the Super Six champion.

How it pans out after the s6 is anybodys guess. Timing is an issue with Kessler not fighting Stieglitz before march/april.

Another matter is venue. Sauerland has gone on record saying he'll make the richest offer in division history to lure the s6 winner to Copenhagen. I doubt however that Ward or Froch will fight in hostile territory next even though Canada and Denmark would be more lucrative. They'd rather prefer a homecoming in Oakland/Nottingham and who can blame them?

agree that coasting to a lopsided win against a clearly over-the-hill Johnson is no claim to greatness -- think Bute held back out of respect for ol' Glen -- probably could have taken him out if he so desired -- would give Bute a solid chance against any of the Super 6 guys, with the possible exception of Ward....

Bute-Ward is a 50/50 fight. Bute would be a massive favourite against any other Super Middleweight. And the clearly over the hill Johnson gave Froch all he could handle only 5 months ago and would do so again if they fought tomorrow.

It absolutely astounds me the hate that Bute receives on this forum. And for the ones that do all the hating all I can say is either you are not all that knowledgeable about the sport of boxing. Or you are just letting your dislike for the man blind you.

Haters will always hate. I feel as though people love to hate Canadian fighters holding world championships. Jean Pascal gets tons of hate, although he is a very ****y and outspoken individual who attracts that kind of negative attention. Bute on the other hand is first and foremost a fighter. No glitz, no glam, just boxing. The guy is a work horse in the gym. He deserves all the success that has come his way. Will he end up losing one day? Of course he will. It's 2011 everyone loses. Except Floyd Mayweather of course, who despite being a tremendously talented fighter will always dodge top level opposition. Back to Bute, he can pose problems for anyone at 168 pounds.

                      Bute outperformed Froch IMO.

Bute now deserves a shot at the Ward-Froch winner.
