How Do You Feel About Fighter Bonuses?

    Per Kevin Iole
[Todd DuBoef] said he’s going to put a $100,000 winner-take-all bonus on the line for Donaire’s next bout as a way to encourage the fighters to compete. The money will be in addition to the fighters’ contracted purses.

Angered at a bout which lacked action, Top Rank president Todd duBoef says Nonito Donaire’s next fight will feature a $100,000 bonus for the winner.

So how do you feel about guys already getting hundreds of thousands of dollars or even millions guaranteed being offered an additional $100K? The UFC does something similar where they offer cash for KO of the night, fight of the night, submission of the night, etc during their fight cards.

IMO, I think threatening to withhold a fighters' purse or having it in the contract that if they just simply try to survive and stink up the joint to the point of the crowd booing, they will have to pay $100K out of pocket to the promoters or commission. I don't think an extra $100K would've enticed Narvaez enough to open up to get KTFO- he had a nice guarantee and wasn't planning on staying in the division anyway, so he was just there to pick up a check and go back home in one piece.

But if he knew his purse was going to be withheld or he would have to give up a large chunk of it for not fighting, I think he would've come out like a tiny Argentinian Tyson

I am okay with them ONLY when they encourage fighters to end each other as fast as possible via KO or TKO. I watch boxing to see blood, violence and get my adrenaline pumping. Dancing, running, ducking belong in ballet, track and field and the Matrix. But I don't like the bonuses to just fight each other or simply just win.

what was Narvaez's purse? if it was only $150K, i bet you he might have tried a lil harder to get that extra dough

UFC has been doing it for a while. It's cool but not like a new concept imo, but kudos to Top Rank and Todd D.

Yeah, I already addressed that in my post if you read it.

I agree, money is a great motivator... but what would motivate you more to get **** done in the ring- knowing you had $150K guaranteed no matter what and you might get $100K extra for opening up and taking risks with a much bigger one punch KO artist OR having that $150K purse withheld or having to give up a huge percentage of it?

it would be cool... but it would only work if there was only 1 big name brand for boxing, like there is for mma. Not every promoter will offer that to their fighters. Boxing needs to consolidate all these promo-companies in order to compete in combat sports in this day and age. But it'll never happen.
