Antonio Margarito interview on a Puerto Rican radio show *VIDEO*

A few weeks ago I did the same thing for the Cotto video. I'm now doing it for the Margarito interview. The interview is entirely in Spanish but I've taken the liberty to translate the interview (for all my non-Spanish speaking fellow posters)and what he said to say. The interview's friendly for the most part although occasionally they poke fun of Margarito. The most entertaining part is when they bring in Yogee, a man who greatly despises Margarito.

Anyway, here is the video, along with the translation! Green K and comments appreciated!

DJ#1: “We are very happy to have here with us from Tijuana, Mexico…he is Antonio Margarito! Good morning, and welcome to our show! How do you feel?”

Margarito: “Very well, thank you. Thank you for inviting me. I’m very happy to be here in Puerto Rico.”

DJ#1: “How are you? How do you feel?”

Margarito: “I’m doing alright. As always, training and working hard and waiting for the fight.”

    Female DJ: “Are you prepared?”

    DJ#1: “Ready for the fight?”

Margarito: “Of course! I start training seriously next month but I’m always in the gym and always in great condition.”

DJ#1: “What do you expect in this second battle with Miguel Cotto?”

Margarito: “The same thing from the first fight. Miguel Cotto has heart and I expect that it’s going to be a very good fight. I really believe that I’m going to win it and I’m preparing myself to get even better than I am right now.”

    Female DJ: “So you’re certain?”

    Margarito: “I feel certain.”

DJ#1: “A lot’s been said about the incident that cost you a whole year when you got suspended because of the plaster and then—

DJ#2: “His hands are white. Your hands still look a little white.”

    *People start laughing* 1:38 mark

DJ#2: “It’s still on there. Cement doesn’t wash off easily. It’s there on the knuckles. Cement 3500…”

DJ#1: “No, but seriously…in that fight where that happened, you know, the uhh—

Margarito: “Well, you know what? I’m glad you brought it up—

DJ#1: “I’m just bringing it up so you can address our listeners out there about your take on the incident. People out there tend to get a little carried away by, you know, saying that you beat Cotto solely because of it, so now you can—

Margarito: “I know. I’m glad you brought it up. If I had plaster in my gloves, then I must’ve had it on my body as well because I took his best punches and they didn’t faze me. Manny Pacquiao must’ve had plaster as well because Cotto got a bad beating in that fight, too. I read in an interview about Cotto in which he said that he had proof of me using plaster and I ask myself, ‘Why is he even saying that?’ He’s saying it is because my wraps had red spots. If he wasn’t a boxer, I’d understand his accusations. But knowing that he’s a boxer, why is he ignoring the fact that the colors of the gloves wash into the wraps as you sweat? I don’t understand why he’s saying all that.”

DJ#1: “Is there bad blood between you two? Is there a bad blood between you and Cotto?”

Margarito: “No, I don’t believe so. It’s only the comments from his fans that irritate me and Cotto’s accusations. I just think they’re all still hurt over their fighter’s loss. I’m going to show him that there was nothing different in the first fight and that I’ll beat him again.”

DJ#1: “So exactly what happened in the Mosley fight?”

    Margarito: “As in what?”

DJ#1: “In the Mosley fight with the plaster incident?”

Margarito: “Well, in that fight my hands were nearly completely wrapped before Mosley’s trainer was being nitpicky with the wraps. There was nothing really out of the ordinary in the dressing room.”

DJ#1: “So there was no plaster?”

Margarito: “There was never any plaster.”

DJ#1: “So the one year suspension was unfair?”

Margarito: “Yeah. They never showed anything or any concrete evidence.”

DJ#2: “How can they suspend you without any concrete evidence, though?”

Margarito: “Well, you’d have to ask the commission about that.”

DJ#1: “Well, it is certainly a negative incident that really taints your career and your reputation as an excellent fighter.”

Female DJ: “Couldn’t you have appealed that?”

Margarito: “Well yes, we did. I wanted to prove that I was innocent but—

DJ#2: “Well, you certainly have the face of a guilty person.” *4:34 mark*

DJ#2: “I mean, with that hair and those sunglasses, you have the face of a bad guy. Do you blow dry your goatee?”

Margarito: “When I put it…[can’t understand what he says because everybody starts laughing]

    *4:55 mark*

Margarito: “Pacquiao didn’t come out of that fight okay. Pacquiao said he felt my punches and he came out of it hurt.”

Female DJ: “Did you feel Cotto’s punches?”

Margarito: “No. I’ve always said it before and I think that’s Cotto’s fear. I don’t know why he wanted to fight at 152 if he’s fighting at 154. We were in talks of fighting at 152 and I said, ‘Well, if we’re going to fight at 152, we might as well go to 147.’ And he said that we were fighting for the 154 title. If I didn’t feel his punches at 147, I don’t think I’ll feel them at all at 154.”

Female DJ: “You feel that Cotto’s stronger [at 147]?”

Margarito: “I had to be cautious in our fight because I was still measuring his power. But honestly, when I fought him, I didn’t feel his power.”

DJ#2: “Who was the toughest opponent you ever faced?”

Margarito: “I would say it’s Joshua Clottey who had a really tough body and could really hit.”

Female DJ: “Who was the easiest opponent you faced?”

Margarito: “Umm…I’d say it must’ve been somewhere during my first fights.”

*Yogee confesses his hatred towards Antonio Margarito* Mark 6:16

Yogee: “I’m going to say something very serious, and I take full responsibility for it. I hate Margarito!”

DJ#2 (talking to Margarito): “He doesn’t want to know anything about you!”

Yogee: “I don’t like him! I don’t like him! He beat Cotto! Then he said he had plaster! Then he didn’t! Then you had that comeback fight after that crappy retirement—

    DJ#2: “Just talk—

Yogee: “I don’t like him! I take things personally when it comes to boxing!”

DJ#2: “But why? You’re not even a boxer!”

Yogee: “I don’t care! I’m part of Cotto’s entourage and I don’t want to greet Margarito!”

DJ#2 (talking to Margarito): “See, this is the thing with these people here. Every now and then, the station has to hire these kinds of problematic individuals…”

    DJ#1: “He doesn’t like you, Antonio…”

Yogee: “I’m saying it in front of you with all due respect. I don’t like you…”

Margarito: “We can take it outside if you want…” 7:07 mark

    *Everybody goes “Oooooooooh!”*

Yogee: “Gimme six months and I’ll get you!”

DJ#2: “Yogee, you’ll end up a millionaire by taking a punch. Just take one…”

Female DJ: “I look at Margarito’s body and I look at yours and I see you’re going to need at least a couple of years to get in shape for Margarito.”

DJ#2: “The thing is that [DJ#1] is rooting for Margarito.”

DJ#1: “Don’t say that! I recognize that Margarito has a great record, excellent boxer, 38 wins, 27 by knockout, but at the end of the day…I’m rooting for my guy. Right? But I still recognize you as a great fighter and I thank you for taking the time to be with us today.”

Margarito: “Thanks for inviting me! Margarito is going to win again, but it’s going to be a great fight while it lasts.”

DJ#2: “Have you ever been in a movie or had they casted you as a cartel villain in a Mexican movie? You have the face of a villain!”

Margarito: “Well, it’s just my face, I guess.”

Female DJ: “You’re a good guy, right?”

    Margarito: “I’m a good guy.”

DJ#1: “Everybody knows you inside the ring, how are you outside the ring?”

Margarito: “I get along with people. I’m a very friendly guy…”

*From 8:39-9:13 we see the staff off the air taking pictures with Margarito and everybody trying to convince Yogee to take a picture or hug Margarito*

Margarito’s parting words to Yogee: “After the fight, you’re not going to want to see me anymore after I’m through with Cotto.”

thanks for the translation, The major thing that sticks out to me is that Margarito is in hardcore denial about the plaster inserts. He insists that he never had any illegal inserts in his wraps, WTF?

Did I misinterpret what Margarito said?

Is there anyone that can provide information that would lead any of us to believe that this guy and his trainer were not found in violation and suspended for this particular offense?

Yogee is what you call a Cotto stan...

The guy was really, really pissed off at having Margarito there.

I mean, I'll root against Margarito as much as the next Puerto Rican, but pass up a photo opportunity with the dude? Hell no!

                    Yogee dissing Tony was funny!
