    Trinidad returns!

    Associated Press

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Retired boxer Felix "Tito" Trinidad returned to the ring, this time as an actor instead of a fighter.

The former middleweight champion went a few rounds while filming scenes Tuesday for the upcoming independent film "Santito," which is due in theaters in his native Puerto Rico and overseas early next year.

Trinidad, who has a supporting role in the film, said it was the first time he stepped into a ring and put on gloves since quitting the sport in May after losing to Winky Wright, a feeling he described as "a little strange."

But the ex-champ brushed aside suggestions he may make another comeback, saying he hadn't exercised in almost six months and joking that he'd probably "have a bad back" after shooting Tuesday's scenes.

However, he left open the possibility of a future return to the sport in some form.

"As a boxer, 'Tito' Trinidad is retired, but as a promoter, manager or trainer, who knows if they'll see me doing something," he told reporters at his San Juan gymnasium.

Trinidad plays another boxer who gives advice to the main character.

"I told them I would do it as soon as they contacted me," said Trinidad, who's acting in the film without pay.

The film's director, Victor Aldarondo, said Trinidad will be in about 15 minutes of the film.

"He is giving all his talent with love to bring a positive message," Aldarondo said.
