Real talk. Showtime has always been seen as less than hbo, but if you wanna watch good competitive fights, watch showbox on friday. The fight of the century was on showtime. Froch-Ward, probably the most important fight this year,(after B-Hop-Pascal) is on showtime. The very essence of showbox the new generation, matching young fighters tough is what boxing should be.

Tarver & the rest of the broadcasting crew are sooo much better than hbo. Showtime, I'm forever a fan & I salute you.

Gus Johnson is a trip commentating. His style doesn't fit boxing as well as college basketball or the NFL, but he's still entertaining the way he just gets into it. Tarver is definitely pretty good as well. You have to be impressed with the way Showtime is trying to make a dent in HBO's superiority with high quality matchups and concepts like the tournaments at 168 and 118. They don't seem to be wasting their time paying hypejobs to beat up on nobodies like HBO has done with fighters they back.

Think you're going to be disappointed in Ward-Froch though. High chance of a foul ending it early and if not I expect Ward to win easy. Still a great, important fight though.

Totally with you. Ward-Froch has been my most anticipated fight of the year since the two of them won their fights to get into the final. With the cut Ward suffered to delay it you know Froch will be running his mouth, so the build up will be great.

Yeah, they can bring in all the anouncers they want, but what they need to do is start rejecting those mismatches the promoters try to offer them. Is martinez the only fighter they force to make tough fights?

with hbo having more subscribers, i think the important thing to them is just getting the biggest names on their channel (in general, not even just boxing). i think showtime has a little more respect for their subscribers intelligence and they DO have to bring more to the table as far as quality goes to compete with hbo. their boxing progams and shows like dexter are a step in the right direction.

hopefully hershman doesnt sellout and brings it with hbo like he's done for showtime. i think he will though, he seems like a guy that is actually into boxing.

when you have 2 opponents bringing their best stuff, it's a win-win situation for everybody, IMO

Showtime puts on the best fights. HBO puts on the best fighters (usually one sided beat downs).

Showtime does more with less money.

That's why I'm optimistic about Hershman leaving to HBO. I forgot who said it, but was a great line, "Hershman will be like a kid in a candy shop!"
