Ruiz Press Release on Toney Lawsuit

NEW YORK- Attorneys for World Boxing Association heavyweight champion John Ruiz announced today that a lawsuit has been filed on Ruiz's behalf against James Toney based on Toney's use of illegal performance-enhancing steroids in advance of their April 30, 2005 title fight. In the lawsuit, Ruiz claims that Toney's use of Nandrolone, one of the most powerful performance-enhancing substances available, dramatically enhanced Toney's ability to fight by artificially augmenting his strength, speed and power. As a direct result of Toney's doping, Ruiz lost a fight that he otherwise would not have lost and sustained physical injuries that he otherwise would not have sustained. [details]

well good on him...........whether we like Ruiz or not is irrelevant, but everything initiated here, and the principles of it are totally correct........

this isn't a swimming race where the next guy gets the medal.....

good luck to ruiz in this, and hopefully this will be a lesson for other boxers out there who want to cheat.....

I am about 50/50 about the lawsuit. It might seem like a ***** move becuase he should challenge him to a fight again. And this would be the first case of its kind. But Toney cheated and made some excuse that he doesnt wanna back up. Its a popularity contest. If the situation was reversed, nobody would be taking ruiz's side. Everyone would be ready to crucify him. I understand that most wouldnt mind seeing Ruiz out of the picture but that isnt was this about. TONEY CHEATED. Personally i dont think Toney's that great for the sport either. He talks non stop ****, has an attitude, has no respect for anyone he fights and shows up to fights fatter every time. He shows up 240 something against Vitali without the juice he will get KTFO similarly to the way Kirk Johnson did. Either way i think the best way to settle it is not in the court but the ring. The suspension should be removed and Toney should be tested often before the fight.

What I find funny about this is:

Toney did not rely on Strength, Speed or Power to beat Ruiz.

He used something called "Boxing Skill".

Last I checked, steroids do not suppliment that.

i feel as though toney losing a fight that he actully won and being stripped of his belt is punishment enough.
