Comments Thread For: Merchant Gives His Thoughts on Donaire's Move To 122

Nonito Donaire wanted to deliver a scintillating performance last Saturday night in his first appearance at the famed Madison Square Garden in New York, but he simply had a dance partner in front of him who wouldn’t let that happen. For twelve frustrating and tepid rounds, Donaire tried to figure out a way to crack through the shell of tough Argentinean Omar Narvaez but instead had to settle for a unanimous decision verdict that saw him win all twelve rounds on all three judges’ cards while defending his WBC and WBO bantamweight titles.

Larry can be a bit much at times and I vaguely remember Kostya Tszyu asking Merchant for a little respect when he felt that Larry was not being fair to him (but he did so in a way that didnt diminish himself as a gentleman) but as to Floyds carrying on......yuck! Im just waiting for Mayweather v Merchant 2. Gotta love ole Larry, the man has seen it all and gets the questions asked.

That was actually Jim Grey, not Merchant. I think it was the fight before Judah, when they both fought on a doubleheader leading up to it.

              The Racket Squad: Match Point

This was an HBO executive decision that became a Donaire problem.
The bout was simply lousy matchmaking.
The opponent put on weight to get some American exposure with little concern regarding a victory.
He's still a champ in Argentina and can now claim to have gone 12 with one of the 'possible' best.
For those who did not see the exhibition in his Country, Omar can always claim that the cards should have been closer. His fans will always find an excuse for the loss
After Hopkins /Dawson, the last thing HBO needed was seeing another shining star in a less then thrilling outing.
The networks matchmaking skills will once again be questioned when Julio Jr. dismantles Manfredo and Khan chases Peterson for 12 stanzas.
If those were PPV, they would have to pay me to watch them.

It is time, nobody wants to fight him because nobody wants to fight a giant, specially a good one. At least Klitschko has an excuse.

Yeah I remember Tszyu vs Urkal and it went 12 rounds. I think Zab fought Bergman or somebody similar and had a quick blowout win on the undercard.

Donaire is enttitled to a laboured performance . Pac had 1 vs Clottey when his opponent shut up shop for 12 rounds. Martinez almost had one but he rescued it late on.
