I’m sensing most fans on here would disagree with me, but i do believe this is a fight, particularly after last week’s farce, should now be made.
Let’s be honest, Hopkins is no draw in the States. He’s a legend, for sure, a true great and a man loved and admired by boxing fans all over the world, but a draw? A PPV draw? No, not at all. Never has been.
He doesn’t sell tickets in the States (last week’s fight draw little more than 8K punters)
Hopkins has never fought outside North America (please correct me on this if I’m wrong).
OK, those points in mind then take this on board;
If Hopkins came to fight in Wales it would be HUGE. The money would be there, no question. He would make the fight a sell out, even somewhere as big as the millennium stadium would be full. Hopkins would relish that.
Could his ego resist such temptation? I doubt it.
He needs to claim back some respect......taking on Cleverly would do that, aka The Pavlik fight/victory.
It could be a changing of the guard type of fight, or, it could prove again that at 46/47 Hopkins IS the Daddy of boxing.
Is it too soon for Clev? I don’t know, maybe. But sometimes a boy has to become a man, and a victory over Hopkins would certainly confirm that.
Come on Frank, make it happen!
