Comments Thread For: Lederman Not Sold on Gamboa vs. Donaire Just Yet

It’s been eight long months since Nonito Donaire has displayed his craft for a worldwide audience but the wait will end this weekend as he faces off with Omar Narvaez at the WaMu Theater inside of Madison Square Garden. And just as is the custom for all of HBO’s telecasts, unofficial ringside judge Harold Lederman will have one of the best seats in the house when Donaire defends his WBC and WBO bantamweight titles on a presentation of Boxing After Dark.

not really. The Gamboa or Lopez fight will definitely happen since Arum likes to mix up fighters in his own stable. As for Donaire only fighting small guys? I think that's the easiest excuse that you can make on his recent performances. He is just naturally big on his weight.

Why do people want this guy to move up? Donaire is 5'7" but has a thin frame. If Donaire moves up to 122 and 126 and keeps that power, then questions should be raised.

Marquez is 5'7 and has a thin frame too but yet he's constantly challenging himself moving up to 146 to fight Floyd and now 144 to fight Manny, that's p4p. You talk about Donaire having such a thin frame yet Donaire said himself before he started training his weight went way up to 147 and he wasn't fat, that's not thin. If anyone remembers seeing Donaire during Judah's camp he appeared to be even bigger than the 140 pd Judah at that time...

When Donaire said he was 140 and not fat.... I kind of felt sad that he kills himself to make weight at 118.... about time he moved up in weight

Right, but for me it's not about that. I think he should just be fighting at his natural weight now which is 126 because it's getting out of hand now fighting guys that are under 5'5 on a consistent basis. That's not being p4p at all. It's your choice to get down to that weight and fight these little guys no one is forcing you, but he did say this will be his last fight at 118 so I'll take him for his word. just wanna see him challenge himself that way we can measure how good he really is or can be, knocking out these midgets over and over is getting old and means nothing...

I hope he just has a short stint at 122.... maybe one or two fights because I want him to get up to featherweight before Gamboa and Lopez leave.
