Lacy v. Pemberton...what if Lacy struggles?

I was one that thought Omar Sheika was tailor made to get killed by Jeff Lacy yet he fought pretty damn well and even stunned Lacy down the stretch and if anyone has watch Sheika they know that down the stretch is not where he looks his best.

Pemberton owns Sheika so Im intrigued to see how Scotty will fair against Lacy. I think Lacy is going to win and I believe he will be pretty impressive doing so but what if he struggles?

What will the Lacy contingent say? If he struggles against Sheika and Pemberton then maybe some of you big Lacy lovers need to rethink his potential fight with Joe Calzaghe. ( I love Joe but I know the fight at this point is u pickem)

So in summary will Lacy's performance good or bad have an effect on how you see his potential super fight with Calzaghe?

Pemberton is a rough & tumble guy.....but he should, stylistically, be the dream opponent for Jeff Lacy.
Lacy is supposed to be like a "new Tyson"....so if there's a guy who's gonna stand right there & trade with him (a guy who does not have the best chin), Lacy better brutally dispatch him.

I can't stand Joe Calzaghe, & want to see him wiped out like no other...
But, he is going to give Lacy the fight of his life.

I would not be shocked at all if it is a very competetive fight....Pemberton appears to be a very strong and underated fighter but I do look for Lacy to keep showing more and more boxing skills to go with his devastating power as he has in his past few fights...using his jab which is very good although it seems he tends to forget to use it after a while.I think Lacy will end up stopping him in the mid to late rounds and either way as long as he wins Calzaghe/Lacy should be on and would be a pick em fight IMO as well but I think if Lacy comes into that fight in top form he will stun Calzaghe and put another piece of the puzzle together in his goal to unify the SMW division.

I see the same exact thing with Pemberton but the reason I bring this "struggling" thing up is because when Lacy signed to fight Omar Sheika I would have mortgaged my home that Lacy was going to rip his ****ing head off.

I was shocked the way he struggled with Sheika so if he struggled with Sheika anything is possible with Sandman (Scotty has proven that he owns Omar).

I know you hate Joe as do most people on the site...when he fights though I think he is as exciting a fighter as there is in the sport and your right he is going to give Jeff the fight of his life (if the fight doesnt come off I also know that there is no one to blame but my boy Joe).

If Lacy v. Calzaghe comes off in 2006 it will be the fight of the year...I cant imagine a better fight on paper!

i too see a competitive fight for a few rounds, but the key to this fight is lacy's body attack. sheika hurt pemberton to the body in both fights, and if lacy goes to the body, he'll REALLY hurt scotty. would'nt suprise me if lacy does'nt stop him with a body shot.

If Lacy struggles, he'll be a bum, a bust and should fight the average fighters because he may get killed by the elite at 168 just the same way you guys talk about Cotto.

It will be a great, explosive fight and I pick Lacy to win.

I was going to say the same thing about Cotto but you added already...lacy will not be a bum if he struggles a little pemberton is a decent fighter and has been lingering in the top 10 or 15 for a while now....unlike Cottos last opponent.

pemberton has power and lacy's chin hasnt really been tested against a power puncher.

this fight might give us a view of lacy's full capabilities or lack thereof.

I think Lacy will struggle against a lot of guys because stylistically he is one dimensional...all that matters is that he wins...he may struggle against someone like Shieka but then look great vs someone like Kessler...you never know...so just so long as Lacy win comfortably, clearly or by stoppage...

It doesn't matter if Lacy struggles with Pemberton because Calzaghe is too much of a french-fried ****** to even think of signing that fight in the first place. Lacy will go on to beat the other belt holders and then end up moving up or down for a challenge because *******gey will be too busy nursing a "broken hand" or "broken bollocks" for the next couple of years.
