Danny Williams was fighting a C class opponent. He also was winning handily at the time of the injury. The injury was severe. He should have retired. (See: Vitali Klitschko.) Just because you can fight on with an injury does not mean you should. Williams could have done irreparable damage to himself and prematurely ended his career.
If this were the accepted norm then boxers would be employing Chad Dawson tactics in every fight to injure their opponent and gain an advantage.
