As reported several days ago on BoxingScene.com, the promotional team of WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog have extended a very lucrative offer to Sergio Martinez, the WBC's Diamond champion, for a showdown in Russia in early 2012. According to Team Pirog, the offer was more than Martinez had ever earned in any of previous bouts.

Martinez isn't a draw. Heck JMM brings the mexican fan base and he's just now getting 5 million to fight Pac.

To travel to Russia as the champion to defend your belt. Sounds about right if this is the total package including the HBO money. I had it in the 4-5 mill range but DiBella said at least 5 mill okay. If this isn't including the HBO money I think its unrealistic.

True, Martinez may be the best Middleweight now, but if he isn't bringing the people, then he probably won't get the money. That's why it sucks that if negotiations happen for him and JCC jr... he has to bend to their will.

From what Sports Illustrated reported, it was for slightly more than Martinez has made recently but the fight has to be in Russia. I don't think it's wrong to turn that down. Fight in America or neutral territory for the current offer or make a substantially larger offer for Sergio to go to Russia. Personally I wouldn't want to fight in Russia period. I've never seen Pirog hurt and would worry about winning a decision there.
