I can't believe they put that Chavez Sr. fight on ****ing TV Azteca or whatever the **** it was. That **** was bottom of the barrel TV at its worst. And those ads they kept putting around the screen were annoying the **** out of me, as was the ****ty 1970s Round # graphic before the beginning of each round. They took too long getting that **** down.

Wiley weighed in at 150.5 for the Phoenix fight, and I don't think it would have been hard for him to get down to 143. But Top Rank didn't seem to want to make the match. On October 10th, the Arizona Republic ran an article that included the following segment:

"Arum isn't happy with comments from Grover Wiley, the car salesman who has been making fun of Julio Cesar Chavez since he beat him Sept. 17 at America West Arena. Arum says Wiley has talked himself out of a bout with Chavez' son. J.C. Chavez Jr. But Arum might have to listen to the son, who said before and after his victory Saturday night over Jeremy Stiers that Wiley is the only fight he wants."

And then a few days later, an interview with Top Rank matchmaker Bruce Trampler said he didn't think he was ready for the match.

'"I couldn't stop him from fighting whoever he wants, but I certainly don't think that is a good fight for him right now," Trampler said of Wiley, a wily veteran who is 30-6-1 (14 KOs). "Julio Jr. is calling the guy out. That's what fighters are supposed to do and it is commendable. But that's why they have managers: to stop them from talking with their heart instead of their head. Wiley is a strong, solid guy. There will be plenty of time to chase him down the road."'

The official reason for the fight not taking place is the weight, but I don't know. Now they're putting Junior in against Kevin Payne, which is a huge disappointment for me. They could at least have given ***an the rematch he's been promised for so long.
