    Chad Dawson Training Camp Progress??

I'm sure some of you are friends with John Scully on facebook.. He tends to post a lot about whatever is on his mind. He hasn't posted much at all regarding the Hopkins/Dawson fight. (no disrespect to the Iceman if he's reading this, it's just an observation and curiosity.)

Judging from articles about Dawson's departure from Manny Steward, and the articles following.. I'm starting to wonder if Dawson's really running his own camp, with his trainer in a slightly more limited role? In interviews and the media, it's always seemed like Dawson is definitely the kind of person who would prefer to march to the beat of his own drum.

Kind of like when Cotto brought in that trainer for the Pacquiao fight, which ultimately was just facilitating Cotto running his own show. There hasn't been very much talk at all how Scully and Dawson's reunion is meshing. Discussions on strategy or a direction for the camp(other than when Dawson said he was bringing back the Old Dawson).. I don't expect Scully or Dawson to be disclosing secret tactics on facebook or to the media, but the team has been very quiet about their camp, progress etc. Especially considering this could turn into a very tactical fight.

I already had money on Hopkins b4 the announcement, but would like to see Scully have success back on the big stage.. What does everyone think about Dawson's preparation? Please Discuss!

I realize there is a sh** ton of assumption and inferring going on in the above post, but my curiosity and imagination are getting the best of me as this fight inches closer. For all I know they could be having the greatest camp in history, and keeping a tight lid on specifics.

However, if they aren't. And it is a luke warm camp where Dawson has the reigns firmly in hand. It will be bad news if plan A does not work for Dawson. And from what I've seen, you need versatility and extreme focus to win against Hopkins. Surprisingly excited for this potentialy styilistic snoozer of a fight!

    (EDIT) Just read this...

    Ice-John Scully
I am humbled by the level of confidence this man has in me....

Followed by several comments about Scully being inspired by said confidence and the importance of a strong trainer/fighter connection. Perhaps I'm off the mark! Hopefully we get a great fight!

Scully is simply being tight lipped. He assured me he'll give us all of his thoughts after the fight.

Okay cool. Yeah, after I wrote up that big first post. The first thing in my newsfeed is Scully saying he's humbled by Dawson's confidence in him. Pretty much exactly the type of post I thought was curiously absent.

Strange position looking at this fight. I want Hopkins to win b/c I put money on him as the odds were even. But Kind of also want to see Scully shine on a big stage.

I would love to know their main plan and back up plans.. Planning and preparing for Hopkins must be fascinating from a strategical standpoint.

          Same here.

I think it's smart not saying anything. You always hear guys and trainers tell the press their gameplan before the fight. I always thought that was ******. Why would you tell your opponent your gameplan? lol.

I'm going to hedge my bet with a couple dollars on the draw. I really wouldn't be surprised if there's no clear winner when the smoke clears. I just hope we aren't all out cold sleeping from an overly strategic bout...

Even though I don't really know him, it kind of feels like someone I know is going to be a big part of the main event Saturday. Kind of strange!

yeah scully is a good guy he feels like "one of us" by the time he spends on here talking to everyone. Very cool.

Even if it's a very strategic bout it wont be boring to me. I think the mere fact hopkins is just about 47, defending against such a talented athlete like dawson alone is exciting. If it's a chess match, it will be interesting to watch how hopkins/dawson move their pieces

If you were to break the fight out into 4 quarters. 1-3,4-6,7-9,10-12.. How do you see it unfolding?

I wish I could but honestly this is a fight I really can't call. There are a number of ways it can unfold but I think it's entirely on how Dawson fights, and honestly I really don't know his gameplan.

He says he's going to use volume punching to beat hopkins, but that could either be a smoke screen or he could revert to his old self.

What I do believe is that hopkins will be the aggressor. I see him walking forward most of the fight, unless dawson breaks his mold and starts off very fast throwing bombs early, then I can see bhop retreating and playing the counter puncher role until he stuns him.

It's honestly a 50/50 fight in my eyes.

I would have to say it plays into Hopkins favor if Dawson tries to drop bombs. I think staying at distance and firing off combinations and throwing volume is Dawson's track to sucess.. If Hopkins has to run after Dawson, it won't be good for Hopkins.

This is gonna be a tough fight, and likely an even tougher fight to score.
