    DLH v. Ruelas (1995) = 330k ppv buys.

Wow. . . Now I wasn't watching boxing back then; hell, I was only 7 years old. . . But wasn't this well before DLH was a star? It was his first PPV event. . . I can't imagine a fighter that young in the sport nowadays headlining a PPV drawing that much. . . I know 330k isn't that much, but for a fighter that young in the game, wow, he must have been promoted like a champ. . .

I looked into his resume and this was still DLH's 18th fight. . . And at LIGHTWEIGHT! Damn, a true superstar. . . Selling about 30 million in PPV's in your 18th fight. . .

        yeah it was impressive.

and you have to remember back in the early to mid 90's everyone had a "black box" to get free/illegal PPV's, or at least knew someone that did. PPV's were very easy to steal in those days.

I guess that's not much different than streaming online today, just sayin.

I remember just being a kid and my dad saying to me, "you got to watch this kid in the olympics fight, his name is oscar de la hoya he's going to be phenomenal." He actually watched him live in the amateurs and while my dad was a boxing fan, he wasn't a hardcore fan or anything like that so for him to go out of his way to watch an amateur fight just to see him spoke volumes (to me anyway).

Oscar was a star in the Olympics. He always was a draw even when he was just a teenager

yeah, a minor star I guess you can say. He had a lot of attention before he won gold let me just say that. Everyone was excited about him.

I haven't followed Olympic boxing that much over the years, but I'm guessing that's probably the last time there was that much excitement from an american fighter

That was Oscar greatest win against a true top level prime opponent. He was phenomenal in his destruction of Ruelas. That was a very anticipated fight on the West Coast. Hence the numbers it did. And, Oscar was at his best weight-class IMO. A great combination of speed, power, size, and strength.
