  • While I do believe Sergio Martinez should take the fight and finally knock this kid out but by no way is he ducking Pirog if he doesn't take it. Who is Pirog and who has he beat for Sergio to be worried about him? Aside from the KO win over Jacobs, what other fighter has he beat? Even implying that Martinez is ducking Pirog I think is an insult to a guy that has been ducked by many better fighters with bigger names and better resumes than Pirog, like for instance "Vernon Forrest" (R.I.P), Alfredo Angulo and a list of others. I would love to see this fight happen just so Martinez could sparked Pirog and then read all the posts claiming Martinez win wasn't good.

Honestly, it seems like posters on here are too sensitive when other fighters call out their favorite fighters. Whoever thinks Sergio Martinez is overrated is clearly not watching him fight but rather to critique and find some negative to say no matter what. Dude flew Paul williams head and semi retired him and people say "It was a lucky punch" or "Williams was overrated". Same about Pavlik and Sergei and those guys are more regarded in the sport than Pirog but Martinez is ducking him? Man please.

Well unfortunately this is NSB mate.

IMO, since Sergio seemed to be all about the benjamins in calling out Pac and Floyd, so this offer from Pirog shouldn't be a problem for him to take. It is his record high payday after all, regardless of where it's held, Russia or the other side of the moon.

It's actually a win-win situation for him, no doubt he can beat Pirog on a good day anyway, and afterwards, he has more leverage to call out anyone he likes, even Pac or Floyd.

No matter who Pirog is and what people think about him, this is the fight that will have Sergio winning him "history will be kind to him" points, win or lose. Going to Russia to fight him, it's compelling stuff.

I hear you 100% but you know fighters want the glory and perhaps Team Martinez don't feel there is no glory in beating Pirog. I say he should fight him because he gave Barker a shot but it is not my call but if he doesn't and fights someone with a better resume and more established I'm not going to say that he ducked Pirog if he fights someone that can help his cause and who is better.

          • What's so special about Pirog that people wanna see him in with Martinez? He's looked like crap since fighting Danny Jacobs. Why aren't people calling for Golovkin or Sturm or Geale? Nobody would even be mentioning Dmitry Pirog had he not KO'd Jacobs. Is that all it takes to KO an overhyped prospect and now you're the biggest threat to the top of the division?

            • MARTARDS ASSEMBLE!!! Pirog is WBO champion, and has generated a lot of interest amongst the boxing community by sparking out one of the top rated prospects in Danny Jacobs, who obviously is very skilled and athletically gifted. . . If Sergio gets a fight with Floyd or pac by chance, of course he should take the fight. . . but if he doesn't, and he plans on staying at 160, he is holding the division hostage by not taking this fight. . . This is the fight HBO wants, it's the fight the fans want. . . Sergio seems to just want money and attention (although he claims to be a people's champ) - well this is his way to earn respect, money, and attention. . . If he's 100% confident of beating Pirog, why not take the millions?! He A SCARED HOE!

Come on Sergio, prove your the "people's champ" and take the fight. . . YOUR FATHER - Antonio Margarito taught you better. . . HAHAHA when Poppa Tony left your hoe-ass slumped up in a heap straight HELPLESS as the ref saved you and waived off the fight!

So you'd rather see a guy who we all KNOW Sergio will beat simply because he might have a few more well known names on his resume than fight a young guy with obvious skills who WE DON'T KNOW HIS TRUE POTENTIAL?!

Personally, I'd rather see him take the fight against the younger, still unproven guy over a guy who we already know what he is and isn't capable of. . . Right now, Pirog has the best skillset to matchup with Martinez. . . No way getting around it - he's holding the damn division hostage by ducking him

Completely agree with this. What does Martinez have to lose here? I don't understand the trepidation here, Martinez would beat Pirog barring a terrible off night. He can shut Pirog and many fans up, pick up a belt he can use for leverage, and make some good money. What's the problem here?

Let me ask a question. Would everyone here really rather watch Sergio fight Chavez or the Cotto-Margarito winner than Pirog?

I already cosigned and said that I have no issues with Martinez fighting or not fighting Pirog. If Martinez fought someone better and more established then how can Martinez be ducking Pirog? Do you know how many better fighters than Pirog that have not wanted to fight Sergio Martinez? Always two sides to the coin homie and that's all I'm saying. Pirog has not been looking that dominate since Jacobs and the guys Pirog are fighting at the moment are no where next to the level Sergio is on and Pirog ain't even looking good beating them. I want the fight to happen so Sergio can shut this kid up because I know for sure Pirog ain't beating Martinez.
