Someone should tell the author that they don't fight 4 X 2 minute rounds.....You would think they might notice that every fight was 3X3 minute rounds but okay. Good news is that your rule purposal has already been changed!!
You're damn right, Mikhnienko! That's my fault. Actually, as I wrote this article during and immediately after the finals I made a couple of mistakes. Not in terms of the knowledge but in terms of interpretation.
The missing phrase is that "Thankfully, it has already been done" - in regards to 4x2 -> 3x3 format change. I left for a cup of tea and never picked up from the place I was writing about - a sad thing for me as an author, and I apologize for that. As you see the scores and the description of the fight I know it 3x3 format now.
Same with the Cuban self-imposed exile -> that means they took off a couple of guys off the board, who were real favorites to win the tourney. That is how it was.
Why is the Ramirez-Lomachenko fight still being mentioned as controversial? There was nothing controversial about that fight, only Ramirez acting like a ***** after the fight.

Your suggestion about how to change the scoring is brilliant. Doing it like figure skating evaluation and also awarding 5 points for a knockdown. Should be 5 if the guy actually goes down and 2 or 3 points for a standing 8 count. It will add more incentive to try and score damage like in the pros. They way they currently do it, not awarding pts for knockdows is crazy.

well, to be fair it was "considered" controversial and still is by certain people and i guess that's all it takes to be controversial. but yeah you're right lomachenko clearly won.
so i guess there's controversy about the controversy...

Well there seemed to be a whole lot of controversy that I missed out on. The whole splash of corrupt boxing (again). Watching the BBC this weekend I saw a report on a whole lot of money beeing put down to buy medals for Ukranian boxers. Not that what the BBc said would happen actually happened. They talked about loads of medals being bought.
Pi**es me off when people try to buy medals and results in sport but it pi**es me off even more when some poor guy trains his ass off and then his -legitimate- victory is discredited.
Whenever I hear about corruption and bribes in boxing I always wonder what the refs and judges have to say about it. Not that anyone brings them up much. Only google search on the championships brought an eyeonsport video up that had a bit of what the judges had to say...
