  • Comments Thread For: 2011 AIBA Baku Finals: Results Set, Trends Defined

The 2011 AIBA World Championships, taking place for the last two weeks in Baku, Azerbaijan, are finally over. The tournament was filled with flying leather, epic emotions, horrible scandals, and stunning upsets and – more often than not (even despite corruption claims and questionable decisions) – quality performances by boxers from various countries.

Anthony Joshua will be disappointed but i think if he stays focused on his boxing then one day, maybe one day he'll be something. To think he's only had around 20 amateur fights and not in the national team a while back...he's done fairly well.

One thing though....WTF did those commentators say....Joshua has the makings to be the next Fraudley Harrison!....what a ****ing insult.

Audley Harrison was an amazing amateur, it's a big compliment.

True, but what the hell was wrong with saying Lennox Lewis?

Is it because Lewis is really a Canadian?

Only as an amateur, he became British when he turned pro.

              LOL

Audley did have a good amateur career. What annoyed me about them saying he could be the next Audley is down to what Audley turned out to become...

Forget about pro Audley, he turned too late and never had the heart. Joshua should be pro after the Olympics, gives him plenty of time to improve.

Denis Berinchyk , Andrew Selby and Joshua should be proud of their performance , they are real champions . Lots politics and finances in amateurs and it's Olympic sports . IOC should look into AIBA's questionable dealings in their WSB program and moreover in their so-called 'professional league' . Does AIBA have legal right to have side business ?

Someone should tell the author that they don't fight 4 X 2 minute rounds.....You would think they might notice that every fight was 3X3 minute rounds but okay. Good news is that your rule purposal has already been changed!!

Your suggestion about how to change the scoring is brilliant. Doing it like figure skating evaluation and also awarding 5 points for a knockdown. Should be 5 if the guy actually goes down and 2 or 3 points for a standing 8 count. It will add more incentive to try and score damage like in the pros. They way they currently do it, not awarding pts for knockdows is crazy.
