Floyd said, "I'm 41 and 0, you should be riding my dick." It is clear this is how he truly feels. So to interview Floyd you have to be on your knees with your mouth open. And, that's the only way the interview would go smooth.
What HBO should do is hire someone like Ben Thompson just for Floyd fights to interview him. Because, if someone ask him a question that he doesn't like, or is not straight up sucking his dick. Then the interview won't go well...Or just have Mr. "you heard him" ask him questions. And, then none of this would be an issue any longer.
If Larry knows how Floyd would react to certain questions by getting in defensive mode, why doesn't Larry -- with all of his experience in the game --
tailor his interviews to Floyd's personality ??? That is, if he cares enough and feels it is important to get Floyd's point of view.
We have all seen Floyd being interviewed before and know Floyd answers questions when in a relaxed, laid back mood. He tends to answer pretty much the same questions in his own way without having to get hostile or defensive.

Larry Merchant Mayweather critique timeline:
Mid-Late 1990's: He's immensely talented, has a bright future
Early-2000's: Nobodies going to fight him after this performance, Virtuoso, Brilliant-Corrales fight
Mid-2000's: He wants to be the star and get the big bucks but his fights are often dull -Corley fight
End of Corley fight: Gatti's people said they aren't going to fight you (REALLY?)
Gatti fight: Floyd will never reach the level of a De La Hoya, NEVERRRRRR!!
Judah fight: Floyd will never reach the level of De La Hoya, NEVERRRRRR!!
Baldomir fight: Floyd will never reach the level of De La Hoya, NEVERRRR!!
Late-2000's - present: He said he was going to massacre him. He said he would kill him.
Where's the drama? People don't want to see boring(After the thorough whitewashing which Larry scored 8-4 Mayweather I believe)
Floyd has reached the De La Hoya, but will he excite the people? (Before Hatton KO)
Floyd people want to see you fight Cotto, Margarito, Williams (After Hatton KO)
Floyd when is the Pacquiao fight? (After Marquez and Mosley beatings)
Floyd is known for ducking and picking his opponents carefully... Really Larry? But you used to say that no one would fight him... Larry is bitter because despite his attempts to get Floyd from becoming THE ATTRACTION, he's done it anyway... So now before every fight, Larry tries to make pointed statements about Floyd's decisions BUT he can never discredit his ability so he doesn't even try (unless the fight is reasonably close)Last edited by 26 and Live; 10-07-2011, 04:42 PM.

This is the real about the whole damn thing.
Larry did NOT disrespect Floyd in any way he didnt trash talk him in the interview nor during the fight, the most he said was, Mayweather isnt out classing Ortiz.... Wooo how dare he...but it was the ****ing truth and there is nothing bad about what he said.
The reality is Floyd knew he didnt win in a classy way, with or with out Ortizs headbutt, that style of win will never be respected by true fans of the sport and by any fan who has bought a ticket.
Floyd knew that he started to hear the audience react, and he flipped, he lost it, he knew deep down in side that what he did and the way he did it was cowardly and he knew that he was going to have to face that.... So he went off on an old man got all brave with an old man....
Real ****ing Gangsta isnt it?

how can you give full credit for a cheap shot?
Floyd could have put on a gatti-like beat down on a young, primed, solid welterweight champion. Getting all the credit in the world.
Instead he decided to cheap shot to a win.
You can't give full credit going "amazing dominant beautiful win Floyd." No. you can say he was giving a good showing but can't give him that sort of credit.
And you can't even say I am hating as if you check my posting history, I am on Floyd's side. Except for that fight.

I don't WTF you dudes are tripping for. His old azz been doing that to people like Floyd, b hop and Roy for years. His old azz needed that.
the way i recall it, though, Floyd had given thanks at the beginning of the interview...merchant attempted to bring up the controversy, floyd averted the question by continuing to give more thanks (taking up airtime and crowd control, he's no dummy)
He got upset when he wasn't allowed to use up the time. He could have just answered the questions quickly and given thanks at the end. End of story. But he was passionate at the moment and let that get the better of him. It's odd, but floyd appears, at least to me, that he thrives on people gushing over him. the moment someone doesn't he turns tables, jeckyl and hyde like.
It was merchants duty to address those two points I mentioned, as well as give props for his performance (at least up to the ending). The latter was done, and the aforementioned was just getting accomplished when floyd decided that he wasn't running the interview anymore and got upset.
one man asks the questions - merchant
one man answers the questions - boxer
it's not difficultLast edited by 1nonlymre; 10-07-2011, 04:33 PM.
