Examples of fighters who turn down big money fights to instead "do the right thing"

    Anyone know of any?

Fighters get criticized all the time. Floyd for fighting Ricky Hatton instead of ____, Pacquiao for fighting Mosley instead of _____, Hopkins fighting Oscar instead of ____, Bowe fighting Holyfield instead of Lewis, and recently people are hating on chavez jr for fighting canelo instead of sergio when obviously he'll make a ton of more money, etc etc etc.

So, what are some examples of fighters that turn down massively bigger paychecks to fight the "better fight" or the better opponent for a much less paycheck?

People on this board think it's that easy. It's a very rare thing.

Shane Mosley fighting the undisputed # 1 Jr.Middleweight contender, Winky Wright, instead of agreeing to another Big-Money, third fight against Oscar Delahoya.

Exactly what I was going to say, although Mosley was offended that De La Hoya "low balled" him after beating Oscar twice (officially). And Mosley would have fought Mayorga, but Mayorga got beat by Spinks. So he kind of had no other options but Wink at that moment.

No, that was flat out ******ed. And Marquez got the L he deserved for not fighting Pacquiao. He SHOULD have fought Pacquiao because everybody wanted it and the first fight was "inconclusive."

Or, Shane Mosley taking the Winky Wright fight instead of going right to Trinidad. People forget that we were deprived a Trinidad/Mosley fight due to Shane going for Winky instead of Tito. I can’t see how Shane would have made more money fighting Winky then that of Trinidad in this case.

Side Note: If Tito and Mosley ever would have scrapped (at 147 or 154) I got Tito within 8 rounds TKO!!!!

Mosley did give Wright his deserved big match, but it wasn't a matter of "doing the right thing" over money.

His ego and pride wouldn't allow him to take the "short end" of the money for a third DLH fight, he said he felt he deserved more money because he had gotten two wins over Oscar.

And there was also a fight with Mayorga in the making, but Mayorga lost to Spinks.

And I do believe Trinidad wanted a "tune-up" fight before Mosley. Which is why he fought Mayorga and then fought Wright.
