I think "Fireman" Jim Flynn must have been the dirtiest. The old video plainly shows him with Johnson holding him behind his arms and he's deliberately butting Johnson time after time, but Johnson holds on. They were really tough in those days. The ref cautioned him but he didn't stop and the ref didn't DQ him. He was KO'd anyway a bit later.

The second had to have been Fritzie Zivic, he had a horrible reputation as being the dirtiest fighter around. He favoured lacing and thumbing, as well as rabbit punching. But I'd agree that Hopkins makes a good third, with thumbing, low blows, butting, holding and hitting, rabbit punching and Uncle Tom Cobbeley and all..........

I was obviously WRONG.......... because in a 1903 fight between Peter Maher and "Klon***e, ........
