The sad part about it is that he actually ISN'T lying. Johnson would actually be the best win that Bute would have on his resume if he wins. That's saying something because although Johnson is always game and leaves it all in the ring, he's passed his prime and ring worn. He was when he beat Jones and Tarver, who were pretty much both ring worn themselves at the point that he beat them.
Bute, like most of the crop of Euro boxers, are hyped up bums. They wait until the best in their divisions get old and then they become willing to travel to America. For the most part, they hide out in whatever safe corner of the world that they are in and face club fighters for the bulk of their careers. Then, once their division becomes talentless, they emerge to fight over-the-hill has-beens as if they were fighting prime lions.
Bute fits that criteria perfectly. He could have easily gotten himself into the Super Six, but he chose not to. At least Froch and Kessler came out of Europe finally to face the best in the world in that division. Bute, like Calzaghe, is waiting to strike when the iron is ABSOLUTE ZERO cold.
Don't take my word for it. Look at his record. Look at where he's fought and who he has fought.
Some might argue that he's still young in his career and has time before he really steps it up. But then explain Froch, who has the same amount of fights but has faced MUCH better competition than Bute.
One stepped it up and didn't try padding his record. While the other is milking fighting club fighters and has-beens and deliberately avoids the best in and around his own division.
It doesn't matter what the outcome of Bute/Johnson is. What's important is that this man padding his record with THICK layers but wants to be acknowledged as one of the best in the same breath.
When the legend or the reputation doesn't live up to the reality its just another sad case of hype. Bute is just another case of hype, and the hype whores who support him and his antics would and probably will insult me for writing this post.
It is what it is.
