Oh ya, Im sure HBO is REALLY interested in having 2 non-americans with no name recognition on their air...They are only interested in them so far as coming to Atlantic City and taking a beating from Martinez.

Anyway, if the fight with Gaele comes together, which I doubt, Pirog makes it an easy night of it. Gaele has no power whatsoever. Remember he won a SD against Sylvester who was tkoed easily yesterday night by Polish Proksa. Geale will never leave his Australian comfort zone to fight such a dangerous opponent to leave his title behind. He will defend his title forever in Down Under.
Imagine this fight would come off, Pirog would hold two titles and that's a statement. Afterwards there would be some eyebrows raised and a fight with Martinez truely could come off. Still it's only dreaming, that fight with Gaele is a fantasy of the author of this article.
Geale also, unfortunately for him, is kind of stuck in a hard place. He's a solid technical boxer that lacks power and he has a very quiet personality. In short, nobody knows who he is and he can't exactly make heavy handed statements in the ring.
I'm pretty sure that a few months ago after Geale won his fight in Germany, he was approached by Martinez's team to make a fight. Geale turned it down. I don't blame him for that. Better to have a couple of softer defences first before jumping into the lions den. Martinez would destroy Geale I'm afraid to say.
Regarding Geale v Pirog, I think it'd be a great competitive fight and I really hope it can get put together. I just can't see why HBO would pitch 2 unknowns against each other. Maybe on Martinez's next undercard if he fights Andy Lee (who I suspect is next), with the winner taking on Martinez then.
Let's hope it happens.

The main problem for Geale is that he's not particularly well known in Australia. He doesn't command the same sort of Aussie PPV revenue that some other fighters here do. Because of this, I think it's rather likely he'll have to campaign overseas.

Not to be mean but why would HBO show this fight? Two non american fighters that have virtually never been on the network. Yeah, Pirogs been on once but it was on a small ppv. I know they are trying to find Martinez opponents but this is something HBO usually doesn't do.

in a perfect world, it would be pirog/geale and martinez/sturm for early next year. then the winner of each bout faces each other. good fight though, hopefully it gets made and lands on hbo, i would love to see this live. it'd be crazy if it was thrown on the undercard of martinez's next fight, with the possibilty of a lee fight making it a tripleheader of middleweight fights.Last edited by chiguy91; 10-03-2011, 12:30 AM.
