The pound for pound rankings are meaningless. They are a purely hypothetical "what if" game that has nothing to do with the real world. Sturm is and has for many years been the universally accepted #2 ranked Middleweight in the world and if Martinez wants to be regarded as a true Middleweight champion Sturm should be his next opponent.
Darren Barker on the other hand is not a top 10 Middleweight and had no business being given a shot at the lineal Middleweight title. That was a pathetic choice of opponent.
Or do you seriously think Martinez should be fighting Wladimir Klitschko, who is ranked in the top 10 pound for pound????
As for Sturm being content to make $2 million in his hometown, if Martinez fought him in Germany and beat him there, he would get the respect of all boxing fans and it would make both fighters a huge purse. And as long as the judges and ref were all from neutral countries (which they weren't for the Macklin fight but should have been, and which he could insist on in the negotiations), then there would be no reason why he wouldn't get a fair deal.
