Emanuel Steward: "Sergio Martinez Is Too Big

Do y'all agree that he's caught in between?

STEWARD: "I think that Sergio, if I was Sergio and I was his manager or promoter or whatever, I would not want to be fighting an Andy Lee type of fight. I would want to be fighting one of those big super fights, and he deserves a big fight. It’s just unfortunate that it looks like it’s not going to happen, because he’s too big for one situation, and maybe too small for another, and he’s too good to some degree, too. He’s a big fighter that’s good when you compare him to some of the guys in the junior middleweight and welterweight divisions with the Mayweathers and all of those types of guys. Then I just don’t see him being big enough for the super middleweights. He’s really like caught in between. I think he’s really a full middleweight now, but he’s caught in between and he’s got a style that nobody wants to fight to some degree".

He's a muscular guy but he's short, short reach and only re-hydrates to 165..yet he's all muscle so cutting down to low will hurt him a lot

I do not think Sergio is too big for Mayweather. I think it would be ideal for the fight to be made at 154lbs

He's similar to Floyd in that way. He doesn't rehydrate much, but at the same time wouldn't be able to cut weight and move down a weight class. Martinez was having trouble making the catch weight with Williams, i really don't think he would make 154 very well anymore. Especially at his age. The best chance he has at a big fight would be Cotto if he wins against Margarito. And that's a big if.

steward is correct... martinez is too big for WWs, but too small for super MWs... but that's where all the money is.

martinez's best bet is to buy out his contract with dibella and sign with GBP or TR if he wants the money fights.

Canelo vs Martinez could be very interesting.

Naah Sergio won't have any issues making 154.

IMO that's were he should go because IMO Lara>>>Pirog and I actually think that may be the best fight at 154.

with that said there is also the Angulo vs Kirkland winner, Margarito vs Cotto winner and a shot at either Manny or Floyd. I mean if Floyd goes out and beats Khan and Manny beats Bradley, outside of each other, there isn't anyone left other than moving up.

Canelo is not ready. Martinez would destroy that kid easily.

He is. Look, think about this..

It's freaks like Sergio and P. Will who are some of the most avoided fighters due to their unusual and unique physical characteristics. P. Wills size, reach and southpaw style present problems to any fighters, not to mention he goes there and ****s like he's a smaller fighter.

Sergio has a weird little strong build mixed with one of the most awkward styles in the game. The guy can switch weight and stay sharp and powerful.

Two freaks of nature who really break the molds and that's why most fighters don't bother.

If Martinez started making noise at 154, then HBO's commentators can contemplate the possibility of Martinez vs. Floyd or Pacquiao. What sucks is that it wouldn't be a good look on Martinez's part because of Pirog calling him out.
