The International Olympic Committee today rejected women's boxing, but approved women's steeplechase for inclusion in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. "We are disappointed that the IOC did not accept the International Amateur Boxing Association's (AIBA's) proposal to add the sport of women's boxing to the Olympic program for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China," said USA Boxing's Julie Goldsticker. "We will keep working to gain Olympic inclusion for women's boxing and hope to put forth a successful proposal for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. In the meantime, we remain heartened by the solid and increasing levels of female participation in grassroots and national-level boxing events. USA Boxing will continue to provide opportunities for young Americans to participate in in the Olympic movement through boxing." Boxing and baseball are the only summer Olympic sports without women's events.

We can't keep putting women's sports in the Olympics because it's PC. You look at women's hockey, it's a joke, there are only 2 countries that are good at it, and I put good in quotation marks.
Women's boxing has a looong way to go before it has any credibility. The talent and the infrastructure just aren't there yet. Having an Oscar-winning movie based on your sport doesn't qualify it to get into the Olympics.Comment

Some of you people are plain out sexists. Why shouldn't women also be allowed to box at the Olympics if they want? I in no way would want my daughter to box but the option should be available to whomever wants to do so.
Saying that women's boxing shouldn't be allowed because it doesn't measure up to men's standards is asinine. What sport do you know of where women compare favourably to the men?
Women can't even compete with men at Golf which I don't consider a sport but they still can do it.
Just imagine how disappointed all the female boxers out there who train dilligently and were hoping to be able to go to the Olympics and represent their countries must feel.
If boxing wants to grow back in popularity you can not alienate half of the human race from it.
I would rather see womens boxing at the Olympics than all those equestrian sports.
The Olympic committee that came to this decision should be ashamed of itself for it's sexist attitude. Besides everyone knows how extremely safe and careful amatuer boxing is.

hmm
This is a mistake. Women should be allowed to fight each other if they want to. There is nothing wrong with women doing it if men can do it. We have a girl in my gym who really kicks ass, she spars with guys and can ****in fight as well.
Plus, brain-dead women are easier to get in the sack.
