masakatsu was considered top 4 p4p through 1993 to 1998, with 1996 and 1997 being considered the #1 best fighter in mma

Ive read it was in 1992. Duran was 41.

I saw it a while ago. I thought Duran still looks like he would destroy the average guy on the street. Still fast.

Looked to me like Masakatsu was play acting to lure Duran in.

I thought the same thing. At first it appeared that Duran was hurting him, then Masakatsu moved in for the kill. I was fairly impressed with Roberto. He was way past it and terribly out of shape. Duran would kill the average guy on the street, even now. This wasn't your average guy Roberto was up against.

That was dumb. Duran was fat, and that guy was like naturally 50lbs heavier.

Duran crazy sob, if only 2 years younger...I see this is where Stallone got the idea for boxer vs. wrestler.

Duran's opponent Funaki was Ken and Frank Shamrock's teacher in the art of submissions. He was an early organizer of Pancrase which was around even before UFC I. Duran never had a chance. And Tyson, Holyfield, and the other boxers at the time of the fight would have easily lost to Funaki also, especially if the rules were 100% MMA.

Boxers at the time didn't know that striking loses to grappling and that over 95% of streetfights end on the ground, giving grappling too much of an advantage.
