He beat Danny Jacobs, who IMO is MUCH better than Paul Williams and a little better than Kelly Pavlik - Martinez's only notable victories. . . So, WHAT HAS SERGIO done? He had a pretty KO shot, GOT BEAT BY PAUL WILLIAMS, and decision'ed a Pavlik fresh outta rehab weight drained EIGHT ROUDNS TO FOUR. . . AND DREW KERMIT CINTRON!! HAHAHAHA
Danny Jacobs is better than Paul Williams and Kelly Pavlik? Dude, I dig Pirog a lot. Love his punch. But saying stuff like that to pump up his one big win dIscredits your argument. Jacobs is a nice young fighter but he had no real experience in the big time and it showed vs Pirog. Jacobs has never beaten anyone of note and will be considered a bit of a hype job until he beats somebody. I would like to see Pirog v Martinez too, but the truth of the matter is Martinez has fought far superior opposition so far.

Just like Abraham is referred to as a German boxer. It would be more disrespectful if Martirosyan spit on his adopted country and did not come out with a Russian flag. There were Armenian flags in and around the ring as well, and the commentators made it a point to mention throughout where he comes from. No foul here.

And he did make me proud, even though he lost to a superior opponent. No shame in that. He fought like a lion.
Its not that your right or wrong, its matter of opinion...Vic IS Armenian and lives in Australia but he comes out in Armenian Flag... Im just sayin...Gennady is Armenian born bro, been nice to come out in no flag or both flags...Abraham lives in Germany IDK if hes referred to as a German boxer.. That one is 50-50...At least Gennady fought not a top 10 guy, but probably the best of the best..I respect him for that.. Always respect guys any race that fight the best of the best... Was the fight that close? they said it was land slide win from Pirog...True or not?

No problem. I don't know anyone who would agree with you that a young fighter who has never beaten anyone in the top 50 (Jacobs) is better than a guy who was the best middleweight in the world when Martinez beat him (Pavlik) but you're certainly right, everybody's entitled to an opinion

Pirog is a solid talented boxer with a very awkward, but effective boxing style. He'd be competitive with Martinez but that's as far as it goes as of right now, in the future Pirog could possibly beat Martinez, not right now. Pirog is a very good fighter while Martinez is an elite fighter. The difference in the number of fights and what each fighter has faced in terms of opposition is at the very least astonishing. Martinez' ability to control distance and use unorthodox angles would confuse Pirog and take him out of his rythm and his ability to find the range for his punches would not be there. People really shouldn't get too hyped about this win, Martirosyan is a journeyman boxer. I think Pirog has tons of potential, will it come to fruition right away? No, not in my opinion. Just my two cents.

Right. Am a bit surprised we have posters getting excited with this win because going in, nobody thought much ot martirosyan or gave him a chance. That being said, If Pirog improves his opposition in the next few years, he could be the best at 160 as Martinez gets older

Just watched this fight and I gotta say what a fun fight that was to watch! Even though Martirosyan was outclassed and the fight was rather one sided this guy fought like a warrior, kept on coming forward and in the 10th round 'went for broke' when he knew that, that the only strategy that would give him a chance to win. Also, what the **** was up wit the slippery ring?...

Anyhow Pirog put on a extremely entertaining performance as showed his superior boxing skills on display. Pirog does not fight in the typical 'European style' at all; he throws punches from a lot of different angles, gives his opponents a lot of different looks; his punches, his footwork and movement are very fluid; he throws a lot of punches (even though a good amount are arm punches and don't have a lot of power) and defensively he's good at ducking, avoiding punches and covering up when needed...

I also noticed that he has a certain 'swagger' about him in the ring; he's confident, he's a little ****y; and he's very offensive minded. Again not your typical European style of fighter. I'd love to see him on HBO again; his style is very suited for the American audience...

Boxingscene clowns, instead of engaging in the typical Floyd-Pac drivel, watch MW Dimitry Pirog:

Anyone who appreciates a skilled boxer giving a less skilled boxer a beat down (sounds like Mayweather-Ortiz?) will enjoy it...

Did you honestly compare those two fights?

I thought Pirog was a punch away from ending it in the 2nd round -- and it seemed like that a few more times throughout the bout. Rose was a hearty guy, but completely out of his depth.

The only thing I took away from that fight was Pirog's slick looking upper body movement.
