it is impossible to say a current champ can beat an all time great, when some one says they can they get called idiots. is this because they are idiots or because legendary boxers get hyped up to be even bigger than they were. my question to you guys is wich current champ could beat what legend?(hopefully no one will call u an idiot for your opinion
legends vs current champs

first off, anytime an opinion is spoken (written), someone will always think someone else is an idiot. On that note, I think the only way to compare current champs to legends is if the current champs trained like the legends did. The training is so much more sophisticated now that there are more opportunities to become a "physical marval." Plus, fighters (especially those during the depression) were distracted a lot more due to the realities of life and societies demand for decent reputation. I could go on, but am tired of typing. Like I said before, the only way to compare the two is if the trained the way of the elder. -
and all these fighters trying to get out of the ****** trying to fight for a living or people trying to turn there life around after getting out of jail. i mean now a days they do have things that they can take to be more athletic. but so does the guy there fightingComment

ya it's crazy. back then they fought mo, but boxers these days only fight 3-4 times a year once they get on top. That's part of ta reason people praise ta legends as gods becuz of thier activity, fight numbers and training regime. Also ta situation they was in back then. But skillwise, I bet Floyd Mayweatha would wreck havoc gainst sum of ta legends at 140lbs. Floyd = Legendary Status. Ta guy has errrthing locked. I bet he beats 140lbs legends.Comment

i bet vitali would have given a lot of heavyweight legends trouble just because of his sheer physical size. there was nobody back in the 50's and 60's that carried 250-260 pounds like the guys today do.
i would put floyd mayweather in with 130 and 135 pound greats and like his chances. i think he needs actual fights at 140 before you say hes got dat **** locked.Comment

primo carnera was that big and he got pounded by some of the smaller heavyweights of the time.Originally posted by Hitman932i bet vitali would have given a lot of heavyweight legends trouble just because of his sheer physical size. there was nobody back in the 50's and 60's that carried 250-260 pounds like the guys today do.

floyd is awsome but i think he would have suffered against sugar ray robinson when he was at 135 or 140Comment

Sheer size isn't all that. Ever see 6'1 187 lb Dempsey take OUT 6'7 245lb Williard, who was then the champ? It takes a special fighter to do it, but that kind of size can be overcome. But yes, Vitali isn't just size. He looks awkward, but there's a method to his madness. And most importantly, check out the results.
I could name several fighters 130-135 who I'd favor over Floyd in the "fantasy" matchups. But yes, he's on his way to becoming an all-time great if he doesn't get too full of himself and start dodging his toughest fights (ala late-90's RJJ). His wins over Castillo are still questioned by most fans. I saw Castillo winning the first and had the second a draw.Comment

i think everyone could agree that in a fantasy matchup vitali would KO CArnera inside of 3 rounds.Originally posted by blockheadprimo carnera was that big and he got pounded by some of the smaller heavyweights of the time.

sugar ray robinson never won a title at 135 or 140 pounds. he only fought under 140 for about 15 fights until he was 20 years old.Comment
