Cotto is a very solid "contender" that is trying to become champ...your either a bum, a contender or the champ and Taylor beat Hopkins therfore he is no creation, you dont beat Bernard Hopkins purely on luck or a good marketing campaign...
Couldn't agree more. Taylor's the man right now.

I use to think Taylor was the future of the division but after the Hopkins fight I seriously doubt it now. He did nothing impressive in that fight.

Mic your a smart dude no doubt...

            But...

You see nothing Taylor did against Hopkins that impressed you?

How about (regardless of who you think won) giving Nard the toughest fight he has had since Mercado?

Taylor is a baby, let me emphasize BABY...he has a long long time to fine tune his skills...

At the very least wait until his second fight with Nard before you rush to judgement...Im no big Jermain fan but I believe he can fight a ton better then we saw and as for Hopkins...well I think what we saw last time is exactly what we will get this time.

Be patient with this kid, I think he is about to take a ginat step forward.

I think that is more of what Hopkins didn't do more of early in the fight. He missed alot of opportunities to counter Taylor more early in the fight. Maybe he didn't want to take the chance or maybe he just couldn't get off who knows. Even the people who feel that Taylor won the fight say that Hopkins just started too late. I thought he did enough to keep it close early and took over late. People see my scorecard of 116-112 and think I saw it as a blowout but it was a close fight.

In order for Taylor to look impressive to me again he will have to beat Hopkins convincingly in the rematch. Even though I say it was a close fight he didn't come close to convincing me he won the fight. Taylor doesn't have to blow Hopkins out or even knock him out but just beat him convincingly which is what he didn't do in the first fight.

I was more impressed with Hopkins' defense and countering than Taylor's non-effective aggression and missing.

Do you think Hopkins fought a fight that he normally doesnt fight?

NArd always fights that way...slow...except this time he was facing an opponenet that was willing at the very least to let his hands go...with Nard's 10 punches a round style all you have to do to make things interesting is let your hands go.

So if you are looking for something to say good about Taylor I would point to the fact that 1) he let his hands go early regardless of if his punches were landing and 2) He threw his punches with bad intentions, and you may not have seen it but Nard did and he got no where near Taylor for the first half of the fight.

Nard will do the same thing in the second fight, if I was a betting man I would say Taylor improves a little and wins another close decision...but this time more people are on Jermain's boat.

with his BS decision over hopkins, HBO has tried ILLEGALLY to market taylor as their meal ticket. hes overhyped and as soon as he faces a real challenge, like hopkins, he'll fall short and HBO typically wont give up on him.
