There was a famous singer by the name of Marvin Gay. He was a big star from the 1960s as one of the singers in Motown Record's stable of great performers. The Jackson 5, Diana Ross, Otis Redding and dozens of others were part of this great group of legendary artists.
There was a dark side to Marvin Gay's life, despite outside appearances of happiness. It turns out Gay and his father had a terrible, often very violent, relationship. Things turned for the absolute worst when Gay and his father had an argument, a shouting match, that resulted in Gay's father shooting his son.
Marvin Gay died a few hours later, tragically.
When Mayweather and his father had that massive name calling match in the son's gym followed by Floyd's dropping of the word "Junior" from his name soon afterwards I couldn't help but see a very clear connection between Floyd and Gay.
Specifically, I see the connection in their heated relationships with their fathers.
I do not see a relationship between Floyd and Gay when it comes to guns and violence between he and his Dad. As far as I can see, there has not been any known incidents of physical violence between Floyd Jr. and Floyd Sr. And I pray it never goes that far.
Floyd Jr. and Floyd Sr. should make amends. Either that or they should never see each other again. What happened to Marvin Gay is a warning that all fathers and sons - not just the Mayweathers - must heed.
