According to Yvon Michel, the promoter of Jean Pascal, HBO promised them the Bernard Hopkins-Chad Dawson winner in 2012. Hopkins defends his WBC light heavyweight title against had Dawson on October 15 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. As BoxingScene.com reported on Monday, a proposed fight with IBF champion Tavoris Cloud fell apart after Cloud's promoter, Don King, continued to demand options on Pascal.

HBO should DEFINITELY pick up Pascal/Shumenov or Pascal/Erdei. . . Especially Shumenov/Pascal - that fight would be fireworks son. . . Please don't give us Hopkins/Pascal III if Hopkins wins - way too soon, and not enough "closeness", for lack of a better term, in their previous fight, to call for a rubber match. a rematch with Dawson isn't a bad fight though, it has a bit of an intrigue and a storyline

Are HBO promoters now?

This is where HBO gets into trouble, when they try and be promoters. Granted, promoters in boxing can be the biggest obstacle to success, HBO are in the TV business. They should not be making fights, but rather buying or declining fights that promoters bring to them. The Bradley-Alexander deal is a case study in why HBO should not try playing promoters.
