For some reason, Mayweather has always held Ortiz in disdain. If you look at the entirety of the process from Day One, Floyd never had any 'respect' for Ortiz.
First, Floyd selected Ortiz as an opponent - something which, contrary to Floyd's reputation as a cherrypicker, he never does:
Floyd has not been cherrypicking... he has been rsponding to challenges, but only to challenges from the highly-ranked or big-name opponents who can help sell a fight.
But in this case, Floyd CHOSE Ortiz. Why? I believe because PBF wanted to ruin the kid as get-back to Oscar. Floyd despises Oscar, and he views Ortiz as Oscar Lite.
Look back at all of the events:
When Floyd got into the ring, he walked forward, and hit Ortiz and then Victor started going backwards. Superiority reinforced. As Floyd said to the media in the post-presser, he saw Vic's face opening up, Floyd knows that Vic (much like Zab) is not a strong late-round fighter. Vic's opportunity was early...and Ortiz just could not hurt Floyd.
I concede that Floyd is EXTREMELY arrogant about his boxing status. And that haughtiness manifested itself in that fight.
Mayweather is a guy who prides himself in emerging from fights "untouched". When's the last time Floyd left with a bruise or cut... the Oscar fight? Four years ago? So the fact that Ortiz bloodied PBF's mouth on some illegal **** enraged Floyd.
If Marquez, or Hatton, Or Mosley, or Baldomir did the same thing, I don't believe Floyd would have reacted that way. But there is an undercurrent of genuine animosity and disrespect for Ortiz that fed into the situation.
In the aftermath, I believe Mayweather is stung by the criticism (he hears the critics). But at the core, he is VERY pleased with the way he mistreated Ortiz.

- Ricky Hatton called out Mayweather on national TV after the Castillo fight
- JM Marquez called out Mayweather on national TV after the Diaz fight
- Shane Mosley called out Mayweather on national TV after the FMJ/JMM fight

Look back at all of the events:
- Arrogantly saying "I'm fittin' to get in there and destroy this kid" at Kellerman's Face-Off. That was un-Floydlike.
- "I'm old enough to be his father....so I'm gonna son him"
- Choking Ortiz at the weigh-in. That was also un-Floydlike.
- Even the pay for Ortiz was small, IMO. $2.5 million vs Floyd's $25 million guarantee. Did Floyd clown Marquez' pay? Nope.
- At the final presser, Floyd didn't want an introduction, he was just antsy to go speak. FMJ was just verrry different on this Fight Week. Uncharacteristically aggressive.
- Not giving Ortiz ANY of the champion's respect (signage, ring walk, etc)
