It was bad for the sport that it ended that way. It was a good fight that Ortiz was very much in. Ortiz was getting to Floyd and was never even close to being hurt by those rights. Ortiz snapped Floyds head back multiple times and had him on the ropes getting pounded.

And what made it even worse it that Larry Merchant didn't get to ask the question that everyone wanted to hear. "Why are you duckin and dodging Pacquiao?"

Floyd know that question was coming so he told a 80 year old man who has been in boxing longer than Floyd has been alive he doesn't know **** about boxing? Merchant has forgotten more about boxing than Floyd will ever know and thats real talk.

I saw a third a boxing match that ended in a bs way. Yeah, I guess I am a hater. I hate buying a ppv to see one guy end a fight and knock out another who has his hands down and is looking at the ref. Both boxers are idiots, and I didn't find that entertaining. And I'm not really interested in seeing Mayweather fight anyone other than Pacquiao or Martinez, as those are the only fighters near his weight that might be somewhat competitive against him, barring the sucker punches. But yes, I am hater. I'm disgusted with both fighters.

Honestly I think it was good, today i heard so much ppl talk about boxing, and ppl asking for my opinion , and in the news and in espn ... its been a LOOONG LOOOONG time since ive seen this kind of reaction... so yeah it was a good event.

Before anyone attacks me I LOVE boxing and i am a boxer myself, and a super hard core boxing fan. Not a floyd or pac or sergio or anyones fan in particular, i am everyones fan.

It was a great event and Floyd was operating on a middleweight like no other. Some, probably the majority, wanted to see Mayweaher lose, some wanted to see if he still had it, and some just wanted a good fight. We got a good fight. Merchant wants Mayweather to stand in the center and trade and backing guys up. He did just that.

Some individual fans of this sport want knockouts because "boxing is getting boring", they say. Steward said it himself - "boxing needs more knockouts". Floyd did just that.

And we all know that controversy sells. K.O. + controversy = more money. Mayweather's stock will rise to new heights. Wether he's the villain or not.

I just wanted to see Mayweather fighting a competitive fighter in Ortiz. Ortiz lacks experience but he's still elite and a prize fighter. He could cause problems to anyone. Floyd showed him who's boss and put a fantastic performance.

Even Jenna Jameson and Tito Ortiz said it was a fantastic fight. Come on, don't playa hate.

This is the first article I've seen on boxingscene that doesn't completely miss the point. The real issue isn't whether Ortiz deserved what he got, but whether the fans deserved what they got. They didn't. Mayweather got paid $40 million for this fight, money which ultimately came from the fans, and in return he delivered a hugely anti-climactic ending. Anyone can get a knock-out by hitting someone who is looking at the ref and has his hands down. It doesn't take a great fighter to be able to do that. But Floyd is a great fighter, and could have got a highlight reel knock-out and sent the fans home happy, instead of giving the fans a massively anti-climactic ending. If he'd done that everyone would have been celebrating a great performance by a true master boxer instead of debating the rights and wrongs of the way the fight ended. Floyd let the fans who pay him down, and himself down, by taking advantage of a man who wasn't in a position to defend himself when he had the ability to get the knock-out by using his skills.

And Cortez screwed up big time by looking at the timekeepers instead of at the action at the crucial moment.

Actually, I think the majority at the arena wanted to see Floyd lose, including Lampley and to some degree Merchant. Steward is just a crowd-pleaser. You can't take him seriously anymore.

Anyway, when that backfired and Floyd obviously didn't lose like most wanted to, people got mad - especially on this board. Then you're beginning to see all these topics on Floyd popping up.

This right here, is fuel for the Floyd haters. They'll use the outcome of this fight for their own benefit and to mask their true hatred for the fighter. It's pathetic.

No one seriously thought Ortiz had even a one in a million chance of beating Floyd.

But most fans wanted the knock-out, if there was going to be one, to be a highlight reel knock-out, not a knock-out of someone who had his hands down and was looking at the ref. Anyone can do that. Floyd is a great boxer and was capable of delivering a great ending, but he let the fans down.

Excellent point. A controversial but legitimate win that everyone is talking about is good for the sport. What's killing boxing are bad decisions, alphabet belts, cherry-picking champions, thieving promoters and several other things I'm sure members of this forum would be only too happy to gripe about....
