So what should Cortez have done in your opinion?

IMO he did nothing majorly wrong, it's just magnified by stans.

The only thing he can be criticized was he was also surprised he saw Ortiz toppled like a tree and he didn't know how it happened and just counted off.

A good ref is on top of every situation, be it the little things and the large.

What happened with Floyd - Ortiz was one of those in between those big and small.

Fighter's safety is important. He could still count Ortiz out coz assumingly let's say he let's the fight continue but he's looking the other way, and how would he know Floyd got a steel chair and smashed Ortiz's head WWE style?

Those lapses can mean big at a different circumstance which can be fatal for a fighter only if a ref was attentive.

The blame falls on Ortiz 100% Cortez did nothing wrong

At what point did he instruct them to fight? He never made the hand gesture nor did it come out of his mouth. Furthermore, if he DID instruct him, why would he look away and talk to the judges instead of paying attention to whats going on inside of the ring?

Joe Cortez is 100% right and that is exactly what happened. Ortiz caused the situation and made it awkward. Dude made a mistake and paid for it. All these guys on here talking about "Mayweather sucker punched Ortiz" are the same people who get punched in their face and says "What you do that for" without fighting back. That's what Ortiz did. Any other fighter would have put there hands up, threw a punch back, dipped their head, evaded or something. Ortiz is dumb.

Should cortez made sure time.was going before telling them to fight, yes honest mistake, the point is cortez said let's go and clapped his hands, hence the reason both fighters came out of thier neutral corner, Floyd slapped him with the left assuming he would put his guard up, when he didnt, he blasted him with the right, this is 100% ortizs fault and it starts with the head butt and ends with not protecting himself at all times, yes Floyd is an ******* but hey we aint here to hug and kiss we here to fight. get the **** over It. Ortiz did not win any rounds and you cant even make an argument, he has outlanded every round, out classed and was never in control.
