Comments Thread For: Fighting Words – As Always, Money May Makes ‘Em Pay

by David P. Greisman - The subplots were manifold, each presented, digested and dissected: the acrimonious relationship between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his father; the abandonment of Victor Ortiz as a child by his parents; the falling out between Ortiz’s trainer, Danny Garcia, and Garcia’s brother, Robert Garcia, who once had trained Ortiz himself. There were mentions of Mayweather’s idol, money, and Ortiz’s idol, Oscar De La Hoya. There were references to Floyd Mayweather’s legal problems and Roger Mayweather’s health issues.

Those secondary storylines supplemented the primary conflict. But for those shelling out hundreds or thousands of dollars to see Ortiz vs. Mayweather in person or spending $60 to $70 to watch the fight on television, it was “Money May” who made them pay.

For six years he has made them pay with his mouth. He is abrasive and aggressive, a boisterous braggart. He captured those characteristics, augmenting his marketability by making himself into “Money Mayweather.” Then he amplified himself further, turning from character to caricature and ensuring he was a man boxing fans either wanted to see or wanted to see humbled.

For 15 years he has made his fighting foes pay in the ring, making them look offensively impotent, making himself seem defensively impenetrable, making defeating him appear to be patently impossible. [Click Here To Read More]

Good Piece! ANd yet all you Victoria fans think that he has the blue print to beat Mayweather next time.. Sure! Sure! WOman lie , Men lie but numbers dont! The writer is right, you ask of two athletes to go in there and knock each others head off to unconsciousness but yet want to play kissy kissy and give hugs.. Eff that... Its a Gladiator sport and they aren't passing out girl scout cookies.. Sure it was unfortunate for the fans who paid alot of money to have it end that way... BUt Karma is a *****! And a lesson learned is a lesson earned... Now hopefully we can see Money MAy vs Pacroid...That is what the fans want and I think we all deserve to see that fight...Boxing needs that fight! Money May all Day!

Good article, yep, its pretty much a non-issue.

It was unsportsmanlike, and a cheap shot, but totally legit.

          It is what it is.

But I havent heard too many *******s talking about feather-fisted Gayweather

I said before that fight that Mayweather had a real nasty side to him, and that Vic might bring it out. How right I was, but I didnt think it would happen like that

Yeah, but left out the fact that Mayweather avoided the big Pacquiao question by throwing a hissy fit with Merchant.

Regardless of what Floyd says Floyd is a professional.
When Zab hit him in the balls, his focus was on the bout and he stood in his corner.
He has always said dont make mistakes and he also knows boxers well.Mosley was trying to be all friendly in the ring,Floyd took non of that rubbish,he was there to fight and that's what he did.
Ortiz was buying time,Floyd had been hitting him for 3 rounds he wanted to recover. He wanted the round to end so he would recover during the break.Floyd was there to fight, maintained his focus and knocked Ortiz out.
