Cortez was actually a good ref at one point. He's garbage now though, and boxing is better off without him.

Yes it's long overdue for Cortez to retire. When a referee's name is announced, the first thing that comes to your mind should NOT be: 'Oh no, how is this referee going to impact this fight?'.

When we hear a name like Kenny Bayless, Tony Weeks etc, we don't have to worry, because we know they will do a professional job.

Cortez has lost his edge. That situation could have been avoided.
