Both of these fighters did something wrong in this fight, but the reality is that only one of those wrongs was illegal. But that's not entirely what I want to talk about.
Ortiz showed himself to be the same fighter that we were criticizing a year ago. I had hoped that he would prove me wrong when I told my friends he was going to plod into the right hand all night, which he did.
The moments that he landed, it was obvious Floyd felt his power (not saying Floyd was seriously hurt, I'm saying he felt it), but when he would have an advantage, he would take his foot off the gas and go into retreat. A lot of moments in this fight looked so much like moments in the Peterson/Ortiz fight where Victor did the same thing. There had been those who said the Ortiz we saw against Berto was likely a one time thing, and it looks to be the correct assessment.
This next point, many may disagree with me on, but it's just something I myself think. I've seen Victor take bigger punches than the two punch combination that Floyd gave him and either get up or not go down at all....that along with the fact that he seemed perfectly fine and was all smiles after everything was said and done makes me wonder how hurt was he really? I questioned his heart then and I still question it now. Honestly, I'm not at all interested in seeing Victor fight again after seeing his last several performances, minus the Berto fight.
