Pernell was a master at being elusive while Mayweather is a master at being defensive. Two totally different styles but people tend to forget because they hate on Floyd so much, is that Floyd be dipping and eluding punches as well. Both in their primes? that fight would be epic for sure. PLUS I think Floyd has more punching power than Pernell had. Alot of people who post on here haven't even watched Floyd from earlier in his career. They always mention Castillo 1, Hatton and Oscar. Sometimes Judah and the reason for that is they want to hold on to the fighters and the fights where someone almost did this to Mayweather or did that.

De La Hoya was getting smack up in that fight. Sure Oscar was more aggressive but did you see his face throughout the fight? Oscar didn't have the face of a fighter who was winning. Didn't he blame and fire Roach for losing that fight? You don't fire a trainer you think help you win the fight. Floyd and roger was laughing when he was going back to the corner. Dudes really do hate Floyd. I remember I used to not like Floyd as a boxer either because I thought he was all talk but can't front. Once I saw him beat Gatti up the way he did, I couldn't front no more. Skill set is tight. Looking back from his earlier fights I can appreciate his talent in the ring. For people to say otherwise is obsurd.

Not only does De La Hoya consider Whitaker the more difficult of the two, he feels very strong about Whitaker also having faced a better variety of opponents.

oscar lost to both fighters! pea mad him look bad as only pea could. pea might be a better defensive fighter but IMO floyd has better offense and the better over all package. i do think pea faced better opposition as all fighters from that era did. there was more pressure to have the best fight the best ant there were not as many wt classes so you had better comp. oscar was a beast when he was younger but he lost to both pea and floyd.

as usual good post grust. it was the corrales fight for me. he was a true under dog in that fight. most pundits had floyd losing by ko or ud. but after 5 knock downs en route to a ko victory i became a huge fan. and once i found out how hard this dude works at his craft, i was a fan. he doesnt get the credit he deserves for his dedication to his craft. like mike, zeke, and magic some people think he gets by on talent and not hard work and craft.
