Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer predicted an "astronomically high four million sales" for Saturday's Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Shane Mosley fight on HBO PPV, which would "surpass the current record of 2.45 million, set in 2007 by Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya by nearly" 40%, according to Kevin Iole of YAHOO SPORTS. Schaefer: "I say that we're going to break records. Not to only break three million homes, my goal is to break four million homes. When you have corporate America behind you, when you have HBO 24/7, it is possible." Iole wrote the fight is "almost a cinch to sell in excess of one million units."

      Yes Schaefer we believe you.

Bob Arum: "It is safe to say we hit at least 1.3 million homes for the Manny/Mosley fight."

          Showtime: "No comment."

Apples and oranges. The former was an optimistic, uneducated guess at the beginning of a promotion, the latter a pre-fight projection based on actual data and past trends.

If Mayweather-Mosley did 1.4m and then the figures predicted, around 1.7m, for this upcoming fight is not that great.

There are people saying that this fight is only selling because of Canelo and Morales but are these guys only worth 300k more PPV buys? Surely GBP was looking to pass the 2m mark with this fight since they added a couple of popular Mexican fighters.

I wonder how many buys the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will generate worldwide? That figure may possibly pass the 3m mark.

Not to mention, the very article you've referenced does contain truth.

                    And then I read this:

"Let's say the pattern shows that every day we're 20 percent above Mosley, or we're 30 percent or 40 percent above Marquez," Schaefer said. "Then, that gives us an indication that the numbers should be somewhere in the 1.7 or 1.8 million range."

LOL! the numbers are only speculation/prediction, not actual. That is ****ty reporting and very misleading.

Don't know about anyone else, but I interpreted that as him giving Mayo an example so as not to have to break down and explain everything at that moment. Fact is, there's data he's going by.

You are correct as far as numbers being numbers. Bookmark this thread and we'll come back to it in two weeks.
