Am I shocked? Hell no... This is just an appetizer for the $70-$80 price tag that will be slapped on the most demanded fight of the decade. They are easing everyone into bigger PPV prices for "bigger" fights. I won't be paying for this one nor will I be paying for Pac vs JMM or even Cotto Marg II. I typically pay $59.99 for HD on DirectTV anyway so its what ever but no PPV's will be paid for unless it's for May vs Pac.

Only thing coming out a positive on Mayweather's end is well the money flow for him, but if he still sells more PPV than Pac with such a steep price tag, we all know why and it would be considered solid evidence.

Great article. I wish everyone would just come out and say this PPV is really $70 bucks since most people nowadays have HD flat screens in their homes.

Only a cheapskate would pay $60 to see a "mega" fight in standard definition on his flat screen tv.

If you have a boxing party and everyone chips in why not pay the $70. If not, the logical thing to do is buy it in SD, wait a week and record it in HD assuming you have HBO (that airs it for free the following week).

That's what I would do if I wasn't throwing a party. However, i'm doing neither and won't contribute to any PPV's until May and Pac fight.

Although, not one person can deny Mayweather credit if he still outsells Pac with such a steep price. I can't even imagine an excuse someone could come up with to say otherwise.

Sorry, I meant that the headline itself "warranted" the ****e in price, that Lewis-Tyson was a widely demanded heavyweight fight (even if the fight came past due).

Mayweather-Ortiz is a good fight and a big event, but not one that was demanded by the industry. I guess my point was that if/when Pac-Mayweather comes along, we can expet them to raise the price, and not that the raise just comes on a whim (as is the case here).

Finally, it's sad that the industry has come to this where we can justify a card being $60 by saying that it's better than some of the crap that's been offered for $55. Even if this u/c is all that (which it isn't), it's what promoters are already supposed to be giving us.

Gotcha, and agreed on the last paragraph. Relative to other cards and price tags, I believe the event is worth the $5 but, generally, I agree these are the cards we should be getting and the price tag is nonsense based on that.

I'll take this u/c as a step in the right direction, and hopefully the actual product delivers. But yes, that pricetag is creeping up when/if Floyd and Manny fight.

My cable (in NYC) charges $5 more for a PPV in HD. You should thank your cable/satellite operator for $10 bucks extra.

Boxing PPV prices have been roughly the same for like 20 years, people were paying 50 in the 90's.

I can go back and account for inflation

Year 1 50*.02+50=51
Year 2 51*.02+51=52.02
Year 3= 53.06
Year 4= 54.12
Year 5=55.20
Year 6= 56.31
Year 7=57.47
Year 8= 58.58
Year 9=59.75
Year 10=60.94

So if you paid 50 bucks for PPV in 1990 inflation at 2% which is really low would dictate a PPV in 2000 should be over 60, that wasn't how it went.

Year 11= 62.17
Year 12= 63.41
Year 13= 64.68
Year 14=65.97
Year 15= 67.29
Year 16= 68.63
Year 17= 70.01

So really PPV in 2007 if adjusted for inflation properly PPV should have cost $70 if inflation averaged 2% (inflation was above 2%).

Year 18= 71.41
Year 19= 72.84
Year 20= 74.29
Finally year 21 or 2011= 75.78

So adjusted for inflation even at 70 you are still paying less on average for boxing PPV than pretty much any other item or service.
