With Amateur Experience, Would Sergio Martinez Be #1 P4P Today?

Currently ranked #2 pound for pound, (47-2-2) Sergio Martinez is often criticized for his lack of an amateur background.

I am not one of those critics but for those who are, my question is:

Had Martinez had an amateur background, would he be the #1 p4p best fighter in the world?

If your answer is no, how can you put any merit in amateur experience as Martinez is already ranked #2 p4p without an amateur background?!

that's irrelevant at this point. the guy has gotten pretty far despite that. if people argued that he's the best in the world i wouldn't argue against it.

      its pac, may, serg

      then everyone else.

      far as I'm concerned.

If he was 2-2-47 I'd understand criticizing him.

But he's 47-2. Obviously its not hindering him as a pro.

"may" doesn't even fight and when he last did it was against a twitchy 40 year old man.

JMM should be in the top 3.

No because he would have taken a different road like how long of an amateur career are we talking about here since he first began boxing at 19.His career would have been different so you cant say no or yes.

in spite of that he's still one of the top 3 best in the world.

We don't know that, he never fights any live comp.

Would you think I was the best bball player in the world if I dropped 60 points on some 4th graders?

While not extensive, apparently he had 40 fights as an amateur with one loss.
