MANILA, Philippines – Recent antics of Floyd Mayweather Jr. have prompted his former promoter, Top Rank’s Bob Arum, to question the boxer’s sanity.

Arum said Mayweather’s troubles, which included his legal cases, the spat with his own father, and even his tirade against his very own boxing promoter, are products of an irrational mind.

“I guess when you are dealing with Mayweather, you have to stop asking rational questions because maybe we are not dealing with a rational guy anymore. You just have to take it as it is,” Arum told Yahoo! Sports.

Arum used to handle Mayweather until the two had a falling out over promotional issues.

Arum now promotes Mayweather’s closest rival, Manny Pacquiao.

“He was never the easiest person to deal with, but he was a different person really to what I see now,” he said, referring to Mayweather.

“All you have to go on is what you see and hear about him and the way he goes about his life. But it is very strange. It is completely bizarre some of these things that are going on. The things coming out,” Arum added.

    Floyd’s troubles
Months before announcing his September 17 welterweight title fight against Victor Ortiz, Mayweather was charged for allegedly beating up his former girlfriend.

He was also charged for his encounters with guards securing their gated community.

While training for the Ortiz fight, Mayweather had a verbal tussle with his father, Floyd Sr.

Just recently, he also blasted Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) owner Oscar de la Hoya, who is promoting his fight against Ortiz.

“A boxer’s reputation is his own and you have to nurture it. He is destroying it,” said Arum.

“What about the recent attack on Oscar? Why is he attacking De La Hoya? He is not fighting him – he is his own promoter. What purpose does it serve?” he added.

More than anything, I think he's really insecure about how the public views him. Yea, in front of the cameras he may be on some "I don't care what they say!", but someone who cries at a post fight conference because of what the media says and just his recent actions in general tell me he's got a lot of pressure on him be it personal or professional. That's clearly obvious.

Co-sign, Floyd never copped this persona when first started boxing some may be very surprised by this but he was actually a decent person with no chip on his shoulder/ax to grind when he first burst on the scene (before mainstream of course).

Floyd doesn't view Oscar as his promoter, it is Richard Schaeffer who he actually views has his promoter because he is the one actually doing the work~.

Also Floyd has always been like this he made that whole HBO paying slave wages comments a long time before even the Gatti fight, so really he was never different we have just got to see more of him~

Also if Arum is questioning Floyd's mindset, you have to question his chances in the fight, the boxing game is all mental and if Floyd is not there Ortiz has a real good chance, but that doesn't really wash with what Arum has said about the fight previously.

First off let me say this...F*@K BOB ARUM!!!!

If Oscar is his "Promoter"...why hasn't Oscar said anything good about Floyd? Why is all the positive pep talks for Victor and not both? Oscar chose his side so now that bullets are flying his way it shouldn't be a surprise.

Oscar clearly has to do more for Victors mental than Floyd's but in doing that he picked his side.

With Mayweather, its either you're with him or against him...who didn't know this already??

He is kind of in a catch 22 - he had to act like this in order to get the public attention that his skills deserve, and while he is happy that he finally gets tons of people watching him fight I think he probably wishes he didn't have to be so confrontational and contraversial to get the attention. Especially because if he had the personality he used to show then he wouldn't have so many influential haters in the media that always try to downplay his achievements.
