dude that is CRUCIAL! ive seen jones sr. a few times in interviews and documentaries and what not, and he seems like a laid back country type - polite and just awesome, but also a disciplinarian and strict trainer who takes care of business.
keep us updated when you go back, and get some pics of the gym if you can!Comment

yeah, the dude was really cool. Even when I was going around the neighborhood trying to find the spot, they were telling me just go up to the door and knock. They said he would be happy to know that I came from Houston and one of the reasons was to see the gym. I didnt want to, but after I talked to him, I see why people were saying to go knock on his door. He was cool as hell.dude that is CRUCIAL! ive seen jones sr. a few times in interviews and documentaries and what not, and he seems like a laid back country type - polite and just awesome, but also a disciplinarian and strict trainer who takes care of business.

nice bro pretty coolso i went on a little vacation to pensacola this weekend. I went to the beach and did this or that, but one of the main highlights was meeting roy jones sr.
I googled his boxing gym, and found it. So i went out and tried to find the gym. I couldnt find it, so i asked a couple of people on the street where the gym was. They told me they didnt know about a gym, but to go to his house, and knock on his door. They told me he is a cool guy and he wouldnt mind.
Well i went to the house, and stayed on the other side of the gate (there was no way i was gonna knock on the door). I see some kids outside and some dogs. Well i walk towards the gate, to see if anyone was on the porch. No one was there.
Then a man came out, and asked me if he could help me. I said "im sorry sir, and i dont want to be disrespectful, but is this the gym of roy jones jr.?" he replied, "yes, sir. This here is what we call the dungeon. This is where roy learned everything he knows. Been here since he was a kid. Nice to meet you, roy jones sr.." roy dont train here anymore, he's got a gym 6 miles away from here." and he shook my hand. He came out to the gate, and i told him i drove there from houston, and that roy was my favorite fighter of all time.
We talked, and talked, and talked, for about 10-15 minutes. He said no one ever goes by there and that i was one of the only people to ever go by there to talk boxing.
This is the best part, we became so cool that he wants me to go back over there on a weekday so that he could give me a tour of the gym (its really small) and to watch some training at the gym. He said he couldnt show me the gym right then and there, because he had his pit bulls out and the kids were playing outside also. But then he followed with this, "we dont do much training on the weekends, but come here on a weekday and i'll give you a tour of the gym. You can train, or you can watch us train." i told i'll be up there in a month and a half or two months, and that i would hold him up to his word. He said "go ahead. I'll remember you. Just come on by on a weekday like i said."
talked a little bit more, and i left... I took a couple of pics outside the gym when i was about to leave.
It was pretty bad ass. It was surreal.
Here are a couple of pics....
