ahh Guzman. What could have been. At 35 even if he were to make a serious push and stay in shape, it's probably too late. Once those freakish natural athletic abilities start to slip, he just wont be that great of a fighter, being that he doesn't have much power at the higher weight classes.

I had such high hopes for him when I first saw him fight all those years ago. A shame.

he lives here in ridgewood/bk and owns a house and everything. and has a mansion in the DR. he was supposed to fight khan instead mckloskey fought him..get your facts straight.

Guzman is one of the best PURE technical boxers in the sport, his lack of dedication is what kills him. he has no knockout power , but he is hard to hit , he uses the philly shell defense almost as good as Floyd and James Toney. a fight between him and Khan would be interesting, it would give Khan an opponent who fight almost exactly like Floyd, and thats the guy Khan is dying to face in the future.

he's 35 yrs old, the window is not shut completely..yet, he needs to hurry up and put in work

@DominiBox NOTHING is wrong with the Dominican Republic, amigo. It's a beautiful, filled with many friendly and humble people. I've had the opportunity to visit a few times and had a great time at the Winter League basaball games I've been to. They have a GREAT passion for sports, specially baseball, but even they have lost much interest in Guzman, as most all true boxing fans. It's his fault.

@boxing4u I don't doubt Don Saxby's capabilities. I once heard an old friend Edwin Viruet say something similar. BUT... can he motivate a very irresponsible Joan Guzman?? And even if he can, which is an accomplishment in itself, how good/effective will Guzman be as a welter?? Let's be honest, he wasn't looking all that good in his last fights, rather soft, slow and carrying very little punching power. Some seem to expect the old 122/126Lbs Guzman. That version no longer exsists.

i hope he gets back in tip top shape. he could make some noise at 140. hope he does well in his fight!
