As I have said numerous times on here :

Marvin Hagler.... seems to be the most respected fighter amongst boxing fans.

No, nobody says he's the best fighter ever.....but everyone has tremendous respect for his skills, for his attitude, & especially for two things- 1)the way he came up, 2)the way he went out.
      He's a boxing folk hero.

My own opinion is he represented the game as perfectly as you could ever want a fighter to do so.

I think Marco Antonio Barrerra. He's a gentleman and a fighter par excellence.

I didn't read the thread properly. I would say the most respectecd fighter fo ALL time has just got to be Muhammad Ali.

Yeah I was going to say Hagler but I wasn't sure about if he was arrogant or a loudmouth or anything like that. For his boxing ability, one of the best fighters ever bar none.

Muhammad Ali and Joe Louis have transcended the sport and have become cultural icons. No one else is close, in my opinion.
