Coliseo Olimpico, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico - In a fierce battle, Juan Carlos Salgado (24-1-1, 16KOs) captured the vacant IBF super featherweight title with a close twelve round unanimous decision over Argenis Mendez (18-2, 9KOs). The scores were 115-111, 114-112 and 114-112. In the twelfth and final round, Mendez dropped Salgado with hard counter during an exchange. Salgado was hurt and had to stay on his feet until the final bell as Mendez was coming close to securing a knockout.
