Does Rafael Marquez have a chance to beat Gamboa?

I was surprised by how Ponce de Leon was making the fight competitive. Even though he was outgunned by Gamboa there were some rounds that were pretty close and occasionally he would put some nice counters, although most of the time he threw looping and wild shots. I keep imagining how Rafael would have done against Gamboa with his accurate powerful counterpunching technique and superior technical skills.
Marquez is already shot and war torn and probably doesn't have much of a chance against a speedster like Gamboa but if he can get in the best shape like he was against Vazquez I actually think he might be able to pose some problems to Gamboa. What do you think?

PDL was "in the fight" only because Gamboa allowed him to be. Such a terrible fight.

If Gamboa wanted him out of there, he would have had him out of there. If I was TR, I'd put Gamboa in with a Top 10 talent in his next fight and allow him to sink or swim. These has-beens and never was are clearly not engaging enough for this guy. He looks so damn bored in the ring

He'll have his moments but Gamboa would be too much for him.

Not any more. It's always up for grabs though with a HOF great like Marquez, but he's old and well past his best days so you would expect him to lose with someone as fast, strong and young as Gamboa who is in his prime just coming into his peak years.

You're kidding right? De Leon a 'never-was'? He gave more trouble to Gamboa than anyone I can think of recently, and maybe in his whole career thus far and it was still competitive before the stoppage. He was hardly bored getting hit more than he has nearly ever been. He was trying to figure out De Leon and was starting to, but he was clearly having some trouble.

If he was bored and could have gotten him out of there without blinking he would have done just that....as he had with all of his other opponents whom just didn't match up to him. When he could get them out of there, he did. Right quick like. He didn't do that here, because he couldn't. De Leon is a very solid fighter, former champ who has become highly underrated because of a bizarre 1st round KO.

When I stop laughing about that, I'll get back to you. Mind you, it could take months.

don't think he will, gamboa will be a little too much for rafa. ponce de leon did come to fight, but i think gamboa could've ended it if he was really determined to. idk, for me it was an interesting/enjoyable fight. i think gamboa would've gotten a late tko or clear decision if the headbutt didn't happen.
