The path, which is subject to fall apart at any given moment can be described many different ways:
small narrow unforgiving fragile dangerous crazy unsteady decomposing treacherous shaky unrelenting heartless painful closing far-fetched.
and at Evander's age, maybe even deadly.
But not impossible.
Unfathomable. Yes.
In fact it's so unfathomable you already know what the path is but with a success rate of such small percentage, subconsciously, you refuse to allow yourself to acknowledge or consider such a possibility even exists.
But it does exists, manifested out of nowhere when Holyfield elected to keep fighting and strengthened when Povetkin's signature hit the contract.
We think of Evander as crazy for continuing to fight at this age but truth is:
Never in his career, even throughout his prime years his BEST years, was this possibility ever made available to him until now, at the age of 48.
Never has he been so close to attaining the All Time Holy Grail of Boxing as he is now. Three fights away.
We laughed at Evander yet here he is, in position, set to begin the first leg of his own "Crusades."
Povetkin is only 1/3 of the grueling path and if he gets by him, and permitting the path remains in tact, the next 2 will definitely push him to the limits of his entire being.
Evander, they laughed at Ali also, so if by chance and God's will, you "shock the world", those of us who laughed will now describe the path as:
