It's definitely not a birthmark. I just used Google Images and searched Sharmba Mitchell. I'm going to venture that it's a scar from his cut from June, which surprises me.

I worked the Tyson fight, which Mitchell was on the undercard of. Here's what I wrote in the June 13 Fighting Words:

"But just sixteen seconds into round five Smith threw a left hook, and was following with a right when his head collided with Mitchell’s. A large gash opened up a half-inch or so under Mitchell’s left eye, bleeding profusely and sending Sharmba to the corner to be checked out by the doctor, who called a halt."
